It's just the name of a paint. Calm down.

Probably referring to Alberto Ascari the race driver, not Ascari the car company. He drove for Ferrari in Formula 1 in the 50's, so it's fitting that the paint color bearing his name is red.

...Why? O_o

I believe the OP's referring to the discrepancy between the paint chip (the color "square") and the actual color that results when you try to paint the car.

This is a well-known bug to collectors of the standard-model S2000s, and it's an interesting story, actually. This is a Honda paint chip whose "real" color (indicated by the deep red of the paint chip) is apparently supposed to be one that was offered on the S2000 in the European market. It's an obvious programming error that the color which actually results when you paint the car is identical to another Honda paint chip called "Iris Red Pearl".

Ironically, there never was an "Ascari Red Pearl" offered on any Honda, in any market. It's true that in some European markets, Honda used the alternate name "Ascari Red" to refer to its "New Formula Red" color (which was introduced specifically for the S2000 in 1999, and later offered on the 1st-gen Insight and NSX). I suspect PD was confused by this, and by the fact that the S2000 was available in Europe and Japan with a darker "Monza Red Pearl". But oddly, PD correctly offers the standard S2000 in both "Ascari Red" (flat paint, matches New Formula Red) and "Monza Red Pearl".

So the "Ascari Red Pearl" paint chip is doubly wrong: PD mis-matched the paint chip and car color; but even if they hadn't, Honda never offered the color in the first place!

Honda's penchant for using different names in different markets to refer to the same color caused a few other errors in PD's S2000 paint colors. The following pairs of Honda colors are identical in real life, but distinctly different in-game:

- "Indy Yellow Pearl" and "Spa Yellow Pearl". (Spa is rendered much lighter, as I recall; Indy is closer to reality.)
- "New Indy Yellow Pearl" and "Rio Yellow Pearl". (Both pretty close to reality, I think Rio is a bit too dark.)
- "Suzuka Blue Metallic" and "Nurburgring Blue Metallic". Neither one is really very close! Suzuka is rendered as a very light blue, while Nurburgring is practically purple. The real color is somewhere in between.

Technically, Ascari is in the game! He died in a mysterious crash at Monza on the Rettilineo Parabolica, the "back straight", which is why the chicane preceding it is named for him: "Variante Ascari".

This happened four days prior:

The odd thing is that his father suffered a disturbingly similar fate in 1925.

Wow this was actually an interesting read. 👍 You should write article on paint for user contributed mag.

Well done, sir. Correct!

It is on the Euro spec Honda S2000's

If a RHD KZ1 or A10 makes it into GT5 or 6, I am down for stockpiling them :).

Or the corner at Monza

This is my favourite paint and I've only gotten 1 of them in like 4000 game days.. and it was in the first couple weeks. It's quite rare.

Edit: I'm willing to duplicate it if someone wants to dupe it back.. I've really been waiting a year and a bit to get another one of these.......

You are allowed to make a secondary account to dupe 👍 just a little heads up :sly:

mehh yeah that would be smart probably.. I don't like multiaccounting.. I have enough other accounts I have to memorize things for as is.
