Hello, GTPlanet. Nice to see you again. This is John with a new topic.

(CREATOR'S NOTE: I am not sure this would be the proper place for this topic, so if it isn't the right place, please move this. Thank you.)

Ever heard of ASIMO? It's that cute little robot from the most hated on car company in America (by muscle car and anti-tuners), Honda. ASIMO stands for "Advanced Step in Innovative MObility." It is about 4 feet tall and can walk on uneven surfaces, recognize your name, do chores, and a lot more than I can explain in one mid-length sentence. Why in "Cars in General?" Part of the inspiration is from the "Once a Mini, now Something (Cooler)," and that this robot is crafted by Honda. In my view, I have much respect to Honda even with people who "cannot stand" a Civic tuner car. I think Honda has innovated and done well in so many fields that I don't think any other company can match or beat. Their research and development has gone into motorcycles (how they started out), ATVs, waterscooters, motorsports, generators, lawn mowers, outboard motors... anyone who seen the Honda commercial that ended by the announcer saying "...and you thought we only made cars," knows all too well what Honda has been through. In more than 60+ years and being at the Houston Auto Show, I was honored to be at the Honda exhibit. While I didn't see the cute little ASIMO robot, I'm sure he would have been a welcome guest to Houston. Honda hopes this robot can be of good use. ASIMO was the result of about 16 years of development. And I'm sure Honda of Japan and all other worldwide subdivisions will be happy to know that ASIMO is a remarkable robot.

If you think you want him, I think he can be bought for $150,000. I don't think there is an assembly line for ASIMO, so don't expect to get him for cheap. There are some websites out there in English and Japanese which talk about ASIMO's capabilities. So, what do you think about ASIMO?

I don't need a robot yet, but I'm thinking about getting one to take the wife shopping. If she spends too much, he'll shoot her with some sort of death ray, or something.

Doesn't Honda own a lot of oil rigs, or something? It makes financial sense to make all those gas engines. You can find Asimo in GT3, BTW.

Celebrity death match!

Asimo wins because

A. Honda uses more precision in their manufacturing

B. Asimo has a bigger battery

C. Asimo owns you and Qrio

ASIMO in GT3? I don't buy that. Don't even know. It would be cool to challenge him to a 20 Lap Race at Tokyo R246, though.

ASIMO Type R? Heh. I bet that will be one that can use a jetpack or specialized Nike shoes. I never heard of Qrio. I'll learn more about Qrio, though. But for the most part, ASIMO is, was, and probably always will be, the better robot.

He'd probably pass you up at the beginning, but with enough low end torque, you should have no problems:lol:

If GT Concept had that Toyota POD races, imagine racing specially-prepared Spoon Civic Type-Rs controlled by ASIMO. And to make things interesting, these ASIMOs been fine-tuned to race with the best of them.

Today, i got my first look at ASIMO at Chadstone. It was great show IMO. The show was free and went for 30mins. ASIMO walked, ran, talked, danced, and shaked hands. Ive got a few vids to come aswell, when my phone works...

I never saw a point to these things. I feel they're going the wrong way with robot or computer-aided life with these things. They cost millions of dollars to develop and still require a lot of human input to receive anything in return. I don't care if they came up with some sort of device that can sensor steps and climb them at 10 steps a minute. I think that the same technology, money and effort can be put towards other projects that would compliment human life far better.

I understand how you have to learn how to walk before you run, but still, I was never interrested in these quai-robots anyways.

Does ASIMO have vtec?
Anyways my vote goes to Plen, a little robot that you can control with your computer or cellphone that can actually roller skate and skateboard, and can get up on his own if he takes a tumble, definately would like to have one of these.

Well, Toyota's can play the trumpet... And we all know how useless that is...

Yeah I saw it last week at Chadstone too, it was pretty impressive, a lot better than I expected.

I thought you'd be there. It really was a great show, because it was free we expected it be more like an exibishion, but it was way better :)

He's not going to be riced, is he?

ASIMO is a novelty, and yet the people I know all remember ASIMO for when 'he' misjudged a step and fell, stopping 'him'. A curtain came down as Honda workers tried to reactivate ASIMO.

'He' recovered, but at least we know that ASIMO isn't perfect, lovable though 'he' is.
