Dear GTP

Today, i askia47 was banned from GTP and was done so because of my signature. My signature had words in it that were offensive and crude, and some might have found it hurtful. For that i am sorry. I didnt mean to hurt anyones feelings and i didnt know i was violating the AUP to such an extent. Since I was banned without any warning i would like ask if i could gain back my privileges, after knowing what i did wrong. the reason i did not remove what i had in my signature was that no one complained or private messaged me. know i know what i did wrong and i will like to e brought back into the gtp community. :)

please consider my apology, and hopefully the mods wont be to harsh on me.

From: Askia27(Formerly the Askia47)

i dont know, the mods will have to answer that. im actually saddened. i would really like my status back.

Are you sure your banned, I mean if no one warned you and no one complained i dont see why they'd ban so fast. Then again I dont knwo what it said........maybe you were just logged out and when you tried to post it said you may have been banned??????

I wish I had seen what was so offensive. I love reading stuff that offends other people.

hanker, his title reads: Banned.

my signature was a quote takin from my cousin sonia. it was quite rash, too rash for here. also the email adress im using won't last long so im dying to get back my askia47 status.

I dunno, that random bannination sounds pretty off-policy to me (and you had no warning at all?). This is very strange. If there was something vulgar in your sig, I didn't notice. Anyway, appology accepted, and I hope you get unbanninated soon.

FYI, the mod who banned you might not be online until tomorrow, and mods also don't have the ability to un-ban people, so things won't be instantaneous. Just thought I'd let you know.

im sorry for being so brash, im just really sorry...please get back me later, as I gotta go. thanks for the tip

Jordan should be the only one with the power to ban and the mods should just report to him so we wouldn't have a problem like this.

That's kinda stupid, he as in Jordan is not online all day to ban people, that's why there are moderators who live in different time zones.. So they can patrol at different times. There must have been a more in-depth reason to why askia47 was banned.

The issue was with severe language in his signature. This wouldn't seem like such an issue, but askia47 had near 2300 posts, so these comments were repeated throughout the forums nearly 2300 times.

I would have hoped that a member that had nearly 2300 posts here would have had better knowledge of the rules.
I really don't find any excuse for that kind of language from someone that has been here that long?

Things here work like the City of New York.

I can forgive, and forget. No real harm was meant. I think his apology is sincere. But, should what he said just simply be overlooked? No, I don't think so. Do I think the mod did anything wrong? No, not at all. But, I do think a more suitable punishment is in order here for Askia47. Yes, I do think the rules are correct, but maybe they could be amended for this particular incident.

All I mean to say is he seems truly sorry for what he said, and promises never to get out of line again. I've never really seen Askia47 as a mean, hatefull or negative person, so I can look past this one negative incident and would feel OK if he came back under his original user name.

And that's going to happen. But the moderator who banned him isn't online until tomorrow, at which point he will finally be able to keep with GTP staff policy and un-ban him. Why that moderator couldn't have asked another moderator, say, one who would be here today, to ban askia is beyond me, you, and common sense. But that's why it's like New York City here - every day we look beyond common sense for answers.

Usually when we ban someone we don't run our schedules by other moderators to see if it would be more convenient for the banned member if someone else were to ban him/her.

I banned Askia because of severe language that was posted in his signature. As other moderators have noted.

2281 posts contained that. That is why there was no discussion amongst moderators.

I will continue this discussion with Askia via PM. If we can work out an agreement regarding this, he might have a chance to regain his former status.

Public Discussion closed.
