In my game, I'm trying to get the most realistic car ASM and TCS for just racing, not drifting. I'm pretty sure having them off is more realistic, but I'm not exactly sure. Anyone have an idea? I have driving setting at Professional. And one more question. For drifting, I know the ASM and TCS need to be off, but if i want to drift with my own cars, I just need to turn them off and buy sim tires right? If i'm missing something, please tell me. I also understand that there are drift settings, but I don't want to go through each car and set it up just for drifting. All I'm looking for is an easy way to set them up so that it can drift a little bit.

We generlly use them both off.

This kind of gets talked about a lot. Perhaps searching for an existing thread would help get more responces (:

ASM should be turned off always. Then buried in soft peat and covered in quick-setting concrete.

TCS has it's uses - although generally you can drive without it. Very high power FRs are more useful with it (*cough* Speed 12 *cough*).

Racing Freak, search for "ASM" and "TCS". Restrict the search to Titles Only, and limit it to the GT3 board. That will turn up a variety of threads on this topic, including the sub-boards like Drifters Only.

That should give you plenty of informaiton.

Thanks for the information everyone. I will probably find my answer somewhere.

Yes... Just there...

Realistically speaking, you shouldn't have TCS on any TVR. But have you tried driving a TVR Speed 12 without it? Jesus...

(edited to make sense... Sorry, I'm concussed)

I am predominantly a grip racer and I have always kept ASM and TCS on, but at a slightly low setting. I try to adjust me acceleration and turning so that the ASM and TCS lights barely flash while I race, but they definately help keep me on the road.

ASM is horrific. It's meant as steering aid to prevent oversteer. Only thing is, if you anticipate the oversteer and counter-steer yourself, you end up understeering, then rapidly oversteering the OTHER way.

If you're a drifter and you try drive with ASM on, I can almost guarantee you'll crash.

Heck, if you're a normal-style, grip-racing driver, then you're still going to crash.

ASM is just horrible, and I use TCS on about 10% of all cars; even then, just 1-2 at most.

I agree - although I've been turning it off on more and more cars lately. JGTC NSXs, even fully tuned, don't need it at all. The Skylines and Supras are pretty much fine without it too...

I've found that like pupik I will use the TSC just to take the edge off FR cars over 900hp, and the setting is usually 2 at most.
ASM is so terrible as mentioned I feel it does more harm than good. If you set your car up right and drive proper lines at controlled speeds (realistic) you will turn faster lap times without it and not risk the game or your car doing something stupid.

I have ASM always off, but I usually have from 1 to up to 4 of TCS, due to the fact that I use the DS2 and can't control the wheelspin much.

Yeah, what he said! I have it set to 2 for the Speed 12, and 1 on anything else I use it on. I mainly use it for launch control, 'cause I'm hopeless at getting a rear drive car off the line quickly without wheelspin.

You are gonna spin out more easily if you turn off both the ASM and the TCS. I am a grip driver, an anti-drifter, and I do things the hard way

I use the Speed 12 just fine without it, although some might find it drives better it's not as fast with it on round a track.

I use TCS only, and only with one type of car, at only one course. The F1s at Laguna. I can go a lot faster through the corksrew with a little TCS on.

I never thought of the ASM as that bad. I take both of those off on all my cars that have less than 650 hp, then I might need them, the TCS for sure.

ASM is terrible. If you race with it, Write down your lap time. Then, turn it off. See what happens.

TCS- Keep it low. Ususally mine never exceeds level 3.

ASM is an acronym for "Always Sliding My (ass off the track to the outside). That's exactly what happens when it is on.

Funny thing, in GT2 you had to buy ASM and TCS for each car. I had it on none of my cars. I did buy TCS for 3.
Then I learned how to set up a recalcitrant MR car. Now I have it on 3 cars, use it on two.

lol, i leave them both at the default settings. i also drive in AT not MT. I like my lap times.

You'll go quicker with them both off, especially ASM.

nope, i just keep spinning out. can't change 12 months of driving habits.

ok, just ran the cote d'azur in the spider/roadster race in the ruf 3400s and my best lap was the 7th lap: 1'43.227
The total time was 26'46.486 (one pit stop).

That's with the ASM and TCS at the default setting.

So how much slower am i?

You MAY not like the answer to that.

Top time for that race, in that car at GT3Times is:
Hugo Boss; Ruf 3400S; 631hp; 23:34.396; DualShock2

If you're a "beginner" (and I hesitate to use the term, as it reeks of condescension) leave the TCS as it is, but turn that damn ASM off, for heaven's sakes :D

Yeah i did find out that ASM does really suck. Thanks for all the input and stuff. I've been going through some of my cars, and most of the tcs i put down to zero, as well as all the ASM down to zero. For higher powered cars (especially race cars) I have at around 3 or 2. Definitely more realistic in my opinion. ;)

lol, i asked how much slower i was, i knew what i was setting up for. I'm perfectly fine being 12 or so seconds slower than the fastest time ever. I still finished first so that's all that matters. I haven't even completed the game once.

It's 3 mins 12 seconds slower.

I left my ASM and TCS on for the longest time ever

actually, I left them on all the way to my 100% completion of the game

it wasn't until like.....2 months ago when i picked up on drifting in GT3....then I noticed the insane improvements in car handling is without ASM and TCS!!

=)
