hey guys, well I recently noticed that I HAVE to drive with ASM on now! If i wack it off, then I hit any and every obstacle between me and the finish :grumpy:

I never used SRF, but now I just cannot get round the track without Active Stability Management, and it's making me feel like a noob :(

Does anyone else feel it really helps? Do you feel like a noob?

Nope afraid not... it seems to really dull down the performance. Occasionally ill turn SRF for a REALLY lively FR car (GT350R comes to mine) making it possible to race with the nose forwards as opposed to sideways. thats it.

What cars are we talking here, for me ASM makes cars worse.. they understeer. If you have a nice balanced car you dont need any aids.

No, it doesn't make you a noob, it just makes you a person that uses ASM.

As for your running into things problem. Turn ASM off, hop in a slow car(too many people turn it off, stay in their 1000hp car, fail miserably and turn it back on in frustration, don't do this!!!!) and run some laps somewhere. It may take a few laps but you'll get used to it and find it's more enjoyable as your car will actually turn.

Try slowing down more for turns.
ASM really only kicks in when you go in too hot.

Took me a while to let it seep into my brain but sometimes slower really is faster 👍

It depends on what car you use. I generally turn it off as I've got more daring and actually been able to control rear-drive cars.

However, car it definitely stays on for, because I love its looks, is the 512BB because it is a twitchy fecker and after almost throwing the controller at the screen in frustration at the fiftieth spin-out and feeling like an utter n00B (I've been playing Gran Turismo constantly since GT1). I have no shame in admitting that I use ASM on cars that need it. However it does make the car handle like a shopping trolley full of compost bags so be sure to fiddle with LSDs as well if you're struggling.

ASM is really on some cars (maybe not to the extent of GT5's version). As such there is nothing wrong with it. The only unrealistic driver aid is Skid recovery, but even then i wouldn't say anyone was a noob.

every user has different talents. If you are not as talented as pros, you shouldn´t be embarassed to use aids. It is important to have your own fun with the game and drive it how it feels best for you.

Exactly, thats what why its in the game :)

What I will say is that learning to drive with it off has its own rewards and often results in potentially better times but at the end of the day it comes down to what the individual player prefers

I was reading a thread on here the other week, some bloke was rabbiting on about how trophies should be disqualified for anyone who uses driving aids - I think his words were:

Basically, I want my friends to know that I did it the hard way, so they know I'm an amazing driver. You can come back with all the insults under the sun for that one, and I know what you mean. It's pretty silly to care about reputations about a videogame, but hey.

Long and short of is...don't worry about it. Like they say, different players have different skills. Nobody is possibly as vacuous as this guy.

I dont think any aid is noobish to use. I only use abs +1 though on any car i use. Most cars nowdays have all those aids in real life. They are slightly more exagerated though on the game when theyre fully set to "high" but still most cars have them so i dont see a problem with anyone using them skilled or not skilled IMO.

It would be nice to get something extra for using no assists. Like a small percentage of extra xp on money. Perhaps even prize cars from landmark amounts of races won with no assists. I hate to say it but Forza was quite well designed in that respect

I was using ASM on MR cars as those were the ones that kept fishtailing on me but have started messing around with tuning now and realized that a good setup can prevent the problems with ASM fixes and you can be faster. Never realized how much of a difference the LSD settings make before, it's like a night and day difference.

True, but I'm faster in my own car in real life when I turn it off...plus, I get to actually have the rear tires break loose when its off. First thing I do when I get in the car is turn DSC/DTC to off...unless its raining out.

Just go easy on the throttle and try and be as straight as possible when braking - then you won't need it :)

While I do say to try learning without it if you can, some people just can't do things as easy as others. It's recently been scientifically proven that they can tell how good you will be at video games based on a certain part of your brain. It's the areas of the brain that determine how fast you can learn new motor skills and how good you are at reacting to changes and altering your strategy. Certain people are just better at certain things or at least learn them more quickly. The settings are put into the game to be used. They would take them out otherwise.

So far everyone has given you pretty good advice. Start with slower and milder cars and work your way up. People don't normally pair a novice feather weight boxer with the heavy weight champion of the world. Take it slow. Work your way up. Always remember the mantra "Slow in, fast out."

Lol i never argued the fact of which is more effective, im aware that the less driving aids you use, the faster you can go (typically speaking based on your driving abilities)

ASM just seems to cut the power when it detects wheelspin and just slows you down allot, SR and active steer do more to help you drive faster in my opinion. I have used them on occasion with some stuff I found hard with ds3 but never used ASM.

I never use ASM. It has it's uses for beginers but for me it only slows me down and serves no useful purpose.

I usually use aids based on the vehicle and track conditions. I usually only have ABS at 1, but last night I was doing the Dream Car Championship in my Minolta whatchamacallit (900 hp, MR) and the Monza race was in the rain so I turned TCS and ABS up to 5, and ASM on as well. I don't think its noobish to use at all, but then again I use it because I'm not uber-leet.

ASM isn't really supposed to be based on any real life aid, even if there are some cars out there with similar stuff. For that reason, yeah I consider it a bit noobish, but it's nothing to be ashamed of, we all have to start somewhere. If you find it easier and enjoy the game more with it on then by all means use it, just don't be afraid to practice with it off occasionally if you want your skills to improve.

One thing i've found that is helping me improve is changing tyres and suspension .Then tune the suspension and LSD on the super cars makes a huge difference.
