My first attempt at PC gaming is turning into a problem. Assetto Corsa was the main reason for getting the steam machine. Much to my surprise (should of checked first), is it runs only on a Windows os, and not on the Steam/Linux os the machine comes loaded with. Is there any workaround so I can get it to work on the steam machine. Update: Returned steam machine, bought Alieware Alpha, problem solved.

I don't think there is a workaround, Steam OS is based on Linux. I doubt you'll see AC come to SteamOS or find many wheels work on it.

I have to say, I'm really not seeing the appeal of Steam Machines. A Windows based gaming PC has so much more support and flexibility.

How 'bout remove the built in HDD. Install a fresh empty HDD. And install Windows on it through the USB. Then you can now play PC games on it. I don't know if it'll work though.

Really sorry to hear that. Steam machines are still PC, so it would seem you could just install Windows on it. a bit of a hassle but it will be well worth the effort. The sims on PC (even the old ones) are fantastic. What wheel are you using?

Can you trade the Alienware Steam Machine for an Alienware Alpha? That has Windows instead of Linux (or trade for another brand if possible).

The Alpha is just a PC with a fancy interface, so it should be totally compatible with the T500RS, yes. You'll just need to boot into Windows mode to install the drivers.
