I read about this ages ago in a magazine that they planned to use it for future models, but the magazine didnt explain how it's different from other platforms. Firstly could someone explain what exactly is a platform please, is it just the chassis or other parts? And if anyone knows about the VH platform, how is it different?

Thanks

As quoted from AstonMartins.com:

VH stands for Vertical/Horizontal and is nothing to do with the orientation of the components. 'Vertical' represents the vertical integration of the platforms components both up and down the AM range. 'Horizontal' represents the horizontal spread of platform concept across to the other Ford marques. The really clever thing is that it the outer body panels are not structural allowing for inexpensive restyles; expect more special bodied exclusive variants like the DB7 Zagato in the future.

The VH platform will be used on the DB9 as well as on the production version of the AMV8 Vantage. It's a very adaptable and strong platform, that among it's better attributes, allows for convertibles very easily as the cars are designed as the start as "Convertibles with roofs added on for coupes", instead of "Coupes with their roofs removed for convertibles". This is why the DB9 Volante was able to appear so soon after the DB9 Coupe.
