I just installed my new Sony DRU-530A dvd burner yesterday. Since then my motherboard will beep every 5-15 seconds. When I reboot, the computer goes into the bios and says my cpu was overclocked and to adjust it to the right settings. (It was never overclocked) I checked the usual P4S8X problems (voltage is ok-Qfan is off) and it still beeps and gives the overclock alert every other time I boot.

What's the deal? I have never had a problem with this board until yesterday.. Would a Bios update help?

Edit: Bios update did not help.

If the burner is disconnected, the board will still beep.. I purchased this lame board brand new after my Asus P4PE Gold arrived DOA. It has never been overclocked.

On a side note, does anyone have a suggestion for a rock solid P4 board? Price is not an issue.

My setup -

P4 2.4 533fsb w/Zalman cnps 7000cu heatsink-fan
(1) Crucial 512 pc2700

That's like the most expensive P4 board Gigabyte makes, why would he want that? Tha IC7-G is only like $120-$140, and it's got all those futures, except SCSI and dual power. It's also got some that one doesn't have.

Hmm.

:O You're right about the SCSI, I didn't meant the Ultra, my mistake, (I edited it)... What feature does the IC7-G has more thant the other?

Here is a comparative match of all the major players:

After speaking to a few local computer shops, and hearing about their high rate of DOA Asus boards, saying Asus sucks is an understatement. Poor quality control seems to be Asus' motto.

I bought my P4PE from a semi-dealer on eBay. He/They gave me a full refund and even covered the shipping & handling.

My brother has an IC7-G in his new computer and it is top-notch.

i have the same board and i have had no problems

I might suggest taking a look at DFI's LANPARTY series. I currently have their LanParty NFII Ultra B installed in my system and it is top notch. It is an AMD board but they do offer a P4 solution in the form of the PRO875B or 865PE. I'm not sure on how those board stand up to other P4 boards though since I am an AMD kind of guy.

I've had my new motherboard up and running for almost three weeks and have not had a single problem with it.

I decided to do a complete system overhaul. While waiting for parts I hooked up my new Enermax psu to my Asus P4S8X P4 2.4b setup and it worked like a charm. No beeping, no overclock error, nothing. This box might be used as a server or I'm going to sell it, haven't decided yet.

My new system will be centered around an Abit IC7-G Max II or III and the fastest P4 chip I can find. Wish me luck. :)
