I am aware that AMD Athlon processors basically chew more information per clock cycle than Intel P4s, and so say an Athon 64 3500+ is equivalent to about a 3.5Ghz P4, despite having a clock speed of 'only' 2.2Ghz. So have AMD dropped this system for their X2 cores?
(The 4400+ has two 2.2Ghz cores, and so it would seem 2 x 2.2Ghz gives them the 4400+, but surely as they are both AMD cores, that should be 2 x the 3.5Ghz that they are equivalent to, thus giving a far more impressive 7000+? :sly: )

Ok so my question is, have AMD simply dropped their naming policy, or are the cores in the X2 units now equivalent to Intel's at similar clockspeeds? (surely not?!)

And yes, I have a 4400+ on the way, and the poor little boy inside me would feel bigger if it was called the AMD Athlon 7000+ :) 👍

Also, has anyone else here got a 4400+? How does it fare overclocking? I wanted to save myself the extra few hundred £ for the 4800+ and just overclock the 4400+ a little bit, as a 200Mhz overclock really should be fine. Any advice/interesting stories/brags ? I've seen a few forums with 4400+s at 2.7Ghz on each core, has anyone here done that?

That's because they are only faster when you are multitasking or using a program that can take advantage of a dual core processor. Otherwise, if you're playing a game with not much going on in the background, you aren't getting 4.4 GHz, but 2.2.
