Dear GTPlanet community,

I am thinking of buying a racing seat and mount and I have my eye on a particular one that I am very tempted with. However, I have a dilemma and would like to know your thoughts.

I am in to a couple of racing-sims at the moment (R3E, Assetto Corsa) and race using T500RS wheel and TH8RS shifter which I currently clamp to my desk, and as I have said above I would really like to take it a step further with getting a proper racing setup.

The dilemma is I also play lots of non-racing games as well, including RPGs, MMOs and FPS games.

My question is, as Sim-racers, how do you deal with the issue of playing another game on your PC sim-setup rig that isn't a racing game? For example if you want to play an MMO or an FPS, what do you do?

Do you:
- have a separate PC for those games?
- put up with the mounting of your mouse and keyboard on the trays and play anyway?
- play other games with a controller?

I would like to read some of your thoughts before I pull the trigger on this purchase and of course, my question is probably more relevant to the PC sim-racers among us, but any console gamers opinions are welcome too.

Thank you

Is your rig-to-be going to be in the same room as your desk? If so, I'd recommend just using a single PC and using that to drive each setup separately. That's what I do so I don't compromise. I have a simple script as an icon on my task bar which I run to change displays and sound output. It is also setup to drive an arcade machine too ...

Funnily enough I've been thinking up ways to do this myself. I am running a home build rig (link is in my sig) and I'm planning on making a small desk part that attaches to the frame of the rig once I've sat in the chair above my lap, I'll just store it down the side when racing. Will post pictures when done.

Thanks for the input. I am looking at getting the GTOmega Pro Racing Simulator. http://www.gtomegaracing.com/gt-omega-pro-racing-simulator-professional-rs6-seat

It is within my budget and would fit well in my man cave, the only problem being that I would have to give up my desk. So my only option would be to have the trays for the keyboard etc.

On a side note, I have a Wheel Stand Pro already which I bought when I had a DFGT, I wonder if I contacted Wheel Stand Pro whether I could get the additional parts to adapt it for the T500 and shifter whether that would be a better option for me.

I guess I just need to decide whether to go balls deep with this or to just adapt what I already have.

Bit late answer, sorry.
Here are a few images from my Obutto R3volution:

And of course racing wheel setup (T500) which I don't have picture of since I don't have it mounted at the moment.

All this was done by just drilling a few holes and using some screws and wooden boards.

You can probably modify the GT Omega rig also to your needs. It only takes a little bit of effort and creativity. The Obutto is a little more expensive, but I'm using it all the time so it's totally worth the money, especially considering the versatility of the rig and the absolutely fantastic support.
