Auckland supercar drivers suck

Lucky that the driver was OK, and damn the passenger airbag didnt go off, I think Ford need to take a look into their GT in abit more detail.

Shame about the car, thousands of dollars worth of car gone, poof, just like that, as I doubt that'll be back on the road.

The GT hit something on the side, the front airbags are not supposed to go off when the car is hit or hits something side on.

I'm confused as to what even happend there. It looks as though the GT was T-boned, but at the same time I supposed the driver could have attempted to wrap the GT around a telephone pole... And whats up with all the garbage there? Damn, Auckland must be a messy place...?

His alarm probably went off, telling him his car had been stolen, even though he was driving it, causing him to be confused and crash. lol God bless Ford.

Damn in a crash like that I would want every airbag I had to go off.

At first I thought this thread was about how drivers in the Aussie V8 Supercar series suck (they obviously do not suck). Instead I see a wrecked Ford GT. Waste of a perfectly good car. Hopefully the driver will learn from this experience.

I saw this on the news a couple of days ago, what a waste. It's truly a pity that only a few of the people who can afford to own supercars like the Lamborghini and this GT have the actual driving skills to cope with the power and people who do have the skills can't afford cars like this.

It hit a rubbish bin or something which is why there is so much mess. Coincidently the Murcialago also hit a rubbish bin as it crashed making a big mess (see Wrecked Exotics.com).

Why, so it can hit you in the face? if you hit or get hit side on your body isn't accelerating forward to the front airbag so if it deploys it could do more harm than good. Remember the airbag doesn't act like a pillow like on the Simpson's after its deployed :).

One less Ford GT...

Only a month or so earlier a Lamborghini Murcialago was totalled in another accelleration related incident in Auckland...

I hope that dude that wrecked that GT is so permanently physically impaired that he NEVER gets to drive another car ever. I don't feel sorry for him, and I don't hope he's ok. I call natural selection here--if he wants to behave like a bloody idiot let him kill himself. If he wants to race buy a GT40 kit car and goto the track. Limited production cars should never be wrecked--owners should be screened before being allowed to own these cars.

...Maybe its because only Americans really know how to drive American cars stupidly? :dopey:

no - you wouldn't. trust me. one of the most expensive things to replace in any large car crash is the airbag. my horn broke and i was recently quoted $600 to replace the steering wheel, $480 of which was the airbag. consider if every airbag went off, then consider that some upscale cars have upwards of fifteen airbags. you'd be over $5,000 before you even assessed body damage. believe me - you only want necessary airbags to deploy. and manufacturers try hard to make that happen.

edit: and by the way: evidently the vehicle is not equipped with side airbags. note that there is no damage to the front, and that no impact took place there. that's why the airbag didn't go off. what would be the point of a front airbag deploying in a side impact? your body wouldn't be moving in a direction for that airbag to be useful.

Do these not have any form of traction control? Admittedly they mess with the performance, but 95% of the owners of these cars have little or no experience trying to handle the mammoth power these cars can generate. I know the owner of the crashed Lamborghini in Auckland had decided to turn the Traction control off. They are there for a reason, but I'm guessing having it on reduces the manliness of the owner/drivers?

Thats what I've been saying.

Ferrari chose the people who were to own Enzos, and yet you still see pictures of wrecked Enzos on the internet.

But I do agree; when you're dealing with massive amounts of horsepower, owners should be screened to make sure they don't wreck the car and kill themselves (or other people on the road, more importantly).

...The GT doesnt need traction control. If you arent confident of your own driving skills, maybe you shouldnt be piloting a sports car in the first place.

...Atleast with other American cars equipped with traction control, it has two settings: On, and Off... It isnt like the German and Japanese nannies that are ALWAYS watching your back...

Was this guy that, obviously, totalled this GT the same that destroyed a Murcielago as well?

Here's the solution to this; blacklist the owners of such limited run production cars not allowing the to ever own another new car from your company if they wreck it. There, problem solved. In this case my opinion is cars like Enzo, CGT, Zonda, SLR, Lambos, Ferraris, Ford GT, and etc super/hyper cars are worth MORE than the money they are bought with. Works of art should be appreciated and not abused.

How the hell do you break your horn? Used it too much?

no - weak wires or something. the worst part is that it broke on. i'll never forget it - i had pulled over and the horn was still on; using the logic i am famous for it never occurred to me to turn off the car before i tried to fix the horn, so i went in the front of the car to try and literally rip the horn out of the engine, but the sound was so deafening that i had to retreat. so i called one of my friends who suggested pulling the fuse (and turning the car off). so i opened the fusebox and pulled the fuse, but god forbid it should be that simple; the fuse for the horn also controlled the wipers and it rained the following day.

i hate to say it, but you're the only one who feels this way. or, maybe there are more, but none of them have any business experience. the production of cars is all about the bottom line, period. ford doesn't give a **** that this gt was wrecked just like ferrari couldn't care less that enzos were wrecked either. and believe it or not a couple of mclaren f1s have been totaled. no one cares. car companies are just out to make money like the capitalists they are. works of art? give me a break.

That's a fair comment. But tell that to the millionaire who made all his money in <insert non car related industry here> who goes out to buy the car, mainly as a status symbol. How often do you think these supercars actually get pushed to their limits? 9 times out of 10, the driver will reach his/her limit a long time before the car does.

The problem isn't a lack of CONFIDENCE in the driving ability, it's the lack OF driving ability.

And regarding the blacklisting idea, whats stopping the owner from going out and buying another supercar from another marque? Owner still has a mega-powerful automobile, car company loses a sale, and thus quite a bit of money. I mean, with that idea, quite a few small companies would go bust if Jay Leno ever wrote off a car...

Ferrari picked them because to get an Enzo, you had to have own 2 previous model Ferrari's (F40 and F50, I think).

Due to narrowing it down to that, they could easily find the customers with the most money and sell the Enzos fast.

The only time Ferrari cares about an accident is when the car comes back in to be fixed.
