Audi R10: Buy or Win?

I was wondering whether or not I should buy the Audi R10 or win it in the A-Spec Nurburgring 24 Hour race.

If I win it, it's almost 5,000,000 Credits saved. However, I can grind the Indy race on B-Spec to get the same amount of money in around 3/4 of the time. And I won't have to worry with leaving my PS3 on for days on end and risk it overheating (I'm a college student with a part time weekend job, so I don't really want to resort to the endurance race. That is, unless I can train my dog to race for me whilst I'm out the house...).

Any advice guys (and gals)? What would you do in my position?
 
It's a good car, but I'd just win it.
 
I disagree the fact that the R10 is any good. Compared to other cars in its class it is slower and has terrible handling. I would recommend the Peugeot 908 Fap if you are going to by a car in that price range. It is a great car - plus it is cheaper than the R10. Other great cars is Sauber Merc C9, Nissan R92C and R82C and Perescarlo C60 JUDD - only available from the UCD.
 
Later you will ask yourself why did i buyed it, because you knew you will win it.
So 4.7 mil went up in smoke
 
It's a great car, it's not slow, it's just the AI is hopeless with it. I find it ok to drive, but it is a torquey monster and the back will try and step out on you at times.

but to buy or to win? Depends how close you are to the event and how willing you are yo do it.
 
I saved for mine and was so disappointed that I traded it the next day :(

But if you really want the car, then it depends. Obviously any amount of time at the Nurburgring is a little bit more entertaining than driving in circles the whole day, but 24 hours is a big commitment, especially over a few days (but don't worry about overheating, the PS3 is made to cope as long as it's properly ventilated). So I guess the question is, were you going to run the endurance anyway?

If so, then do it. But if you're only going to because of the car, then there's no point in spending a few days doing something you don't really want to do when there's a quicker, easier option. Like I say, it all depends on whether you were going to run the endurance anyway.
 
i just glitched the nurby race to get mine took 1st too, 20min for over 7m cr beats grinding/endurance :sly:
 
It takes some fiddling to get the handling right, especially with the LSD, and unfortunately for the "purists" TCS is a must on the car, but its good fun when you get it situated to your preferences. I haven't tried the Peugot, yet however, its next on my list. I would say buy the LMP car you want instead of winning it, do you really want to do the 24hr race?
 
Buy. Why wait? By the time you can win it, those 4.7m aren't that much anymore and you'll have wasted a long, boring time grinding XP to get there.
 
I just bought it outright, the other day. I'm not doing enduros until PD adds a game save during pitstop or something.

Love the R10 in real life. It's a bit tricky though but it's new to me and I haven't locked in a tune yet. It doesn't sound like the R10 in real life though. I was at Le Mans in 07 and this car is amazingly quiet compared to how it sounds in the game. Looks great though.
 
Good car, handles ok, AI is amazingly bad with it which might make you think that the car is bad.
It's a diesel - another reason to buy it.
I has some immense torque in low rpg range, so you have to be very carefull with the throttle in the corners.
It's totally usable without aids.
I bought mine, don't regret it.
 
I bought one and hate it. Buy a 908 (fairly similar to drive) and wait to you win the R10.
 
Better yet - buy a Mazda 787B.
 
Well it depends on if you can see yourself running that event or not. If you want the car badly enough, just buy it. That event takes a while to unlock and it's quite a feat to complete it. Either way, it's a solid car and I'm sure you'll enjoy it once it's in your garage.

I don't have plans to run that event, I bought mine.
 
I'd just buy it or better yet, get a 2006 birthday ticket and get it from that (that's what I did). I love its cockpit view - it makes it more fun to drive than the Mazda 787B and Peugeot 908, even though the others are superior. It's not nearly as bad as people make it out to be, people just can't manage their acceleration properly. I use it with no driving aids except ABS 1 and I love it. It is slightly better than the BMW McLaren F1 GTR Race Car '97 and even the Nissan R390 GT1 Race Car '98 and AMG Mercedes CLK-LM Race Car '98, but worse than the other newer LMP cars and JSPC cars.
 
The Audi team seems to have no trouble driving it...but that's a debate that's been gone over and over. I'll cease and desist :).

I like it and didn't want to wait 24 hours of racing to get one. To me it was worth it but if you want the faster, easier to drive go with 908 and win the R10.
 
I hate the Nurb, its a 24hour Aspec race which made my decision easy.. I got my R10 in a trade nearly 4 months ago.

if you really want to spend your money, spend it on a different car
 
I downloaded mine through the Stealth Model package. So, er...neither.

I personally don't like Audi's Le Mans cars at all, mostly due to real life and how they always won. And the R10 is still underpowered compared to other LMP's and Group C's. Instead, get a faster Audi R8 Race Car ORECA '05 or a Toyota GT-One from the A-Spec and B-Spec respectively Le Mans 24h events.

Or just use the 88C-V. That tends to be very pain free.
 
I just bought my r10 last week. Bought the 908 hdi fap the next day. Hands down i enjoy the r10 more. I figure buy it now, then when you eventually win the one from the 24 hour race you have a nice brand new one. :)
 
I bought it before I knew I could win it, but buying it is worth it. The open cockpit in-car camera is a great experience and it is the only one you can do it with. If you buy the turbo charge with it and adjust the top speed to acomidate for te extra speed. It KILLS over 170 mph then. It's a very fun car I highly recomend it!
 
Buy it. You can grind that money back in about 7 1/2 hours doing bspec dreamcar championship first 4 races, entering the fifth and quiting in race. You will get 777,000 each time you go through this process. You can also grind that money in a little over 3 hours indy.
 
The R10 is a load of fun... buy it! But if you see an R8 get that instead.. the R8 blows away the R10 for cheaper

Work on getting all of them, but if you want the best then I agree about making the R8 Race Car '01 (or R8 Race Car Team Playstation '05) a priority. The '01 version is lighter and revs at a slightly higher RPM. I can get slightly better lap times out of it, but both of them are the best in my opinion along with the Toyota GT-ONE and Nissan R89C. But get them all. 👍
 
It depends. Are you willing to stay up and race for 24 hours or spend your cash?
