I just found this car in the UCD and bought it because I've read in various areas that it is very good. I generally use the 787B for LMP races and was wondering if I should switch and learn the R8 instead.

The car I really want is the F1 GTR '97 but that has yet to show up for me. Until then I will use these cars. I like the 787B better so far, not only is it premium but the engine sounds wicked.

Any tips or suggestions are welcomed for these or other good LMP cars I can use until I find the F1 GTR.

Audi R8 I believe is the best LMP that has better tire wear then the group C cars (Minolta, r92cp, etc)
Usually those 90s Group C cars are a lot better than R8 but they stand no chance if tire wear is on.
If tire wear is on R8 is your best bet.

I just got the R8 from the usd myself. I have been trying to collect all the LMP cars in the game and have almost all of them except the bentley spped 8 and the nissian rc92p. After driving the ones i have 3 stand out above the others. Peugeot 908, Toyota GT-ONE, and the audi r8.

My best time on the ring used to be with the Peugeot 908 is 5:44.936, and it took me many days and numerous attempts to get that time.

I get in the R8 for the first time around the ring and run a 5:45.207, no bs.

The Audi R8 is a beast, I don't know if its just set up better for the ring than the 908, but it has incredible acceleration and great handling.

The only other car I would look out for is the Toyota gt-one, very similar to the R8 in most respects.

All of the Pescarolos are worth having, as is the Nissan R89C (very easy to drive fast), and the Pegueot 905b.

I've got all of them except the Bentley Speed 8, and money is easy enough to come by these days that it shouldn't be a big problem to collect them all fairly quickly.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't know this and will keep it in mind.

I have also heard that the GT-One is among the best of the LMP cars but I have never seen one offered. I bought and drove the Peugeot HD-FAP but I am certain it is not as good as the 787B overall. I stopped driving it.

Off topic a bit, but you mentioned tire wear. How often do people race with this feature on? I don't really play online much at all. I mostly just practice against my ghosts for better times.

Most public Le Mans lobbies don't have tire wear on (along with aids allowed and low grip reduction :ouch:) so they would usually hop into a Minolta as that car is your best bet. But R89c, R92cp, and Sauber can definately compete.
And the GT-One isn't as great as you hear from my experience. The car has very poor cornering and I've noticed my braking points are much longer compared to the R8. Sure its fast..(I reach 248 MPH when approaching the first chicane at Sarthe in GT-One compared to 245 MPH in R8) but I mean what is that? An advantage of like .080 of a second? And that will hurt because you will have to begin your brake point at a much larger position so its really not worth it. But if you are only talking about Top speed like racing at SSRX, then sure go with the GT-One.

In my opinion you should learn to drive more than one LMP car, so you know the differences between all of them.

Check your set-up on the gt-one, maybe soften the suspension and the compression dampers and add a little front camber, I also run the brakes at 7 or 8 front and 5 rear. With a good setup this car is as fast if not more that the other LMPs

Best LMP out there capable of under 5.25 round the Nordshleife in the right hands and a good tune.

I don't I've yet raced w/ tire wear on, but as I mentioned I mostly am looking at single lap times anyway. As I get better this will be something I look into since the game is a simulator after all.

I do use Steering Assist however. From what I understand reading through all the various threads is that this will makes playing on a controller more like playing on a wheel. As a DS3 is all I have I have turned this option on.

I do agree w/ your sentiment overall as Skid Recovery is pretty ridiculous. It should be an indication to players that none of the GT academy (Seasonal Events as well I think) ever allow it's use. It's clearly an aid for very new players. Veterans should not be using this.

When I get a wheel I won't be using the steering assist.
