$50,000.00

Of course, it's down graded a bit.

Note the smaller wheels and tires.

Oh, and for that amount of money, all you get is a V6.

And front-wheel drive.

It's actually a Mercury Cougar (Ford Probe/Mazda MX-6) in drag... $50k for an Audi R8 might be cheap, but $50k for a dressed up (secondhand) 90's car is just insane... :dopey:

Haha! That is ridiculously bad. Why, oh why would anybody in their right mind put the time, effort and money into making such a daft creation is beyond me. Awful.

The side shot of the "R8" actually looks like a normal car with a weird body. Even if you don't know what it actually is, it still looks weird.

haha yeah the front end is really nice.. might actually be nicer then the actual r8 ones. haha but its kinda telling when u look at the tail. esp with them side by side.. haha and indeed .. i really agree.. WHY? haha and of all cars.. and ford.? :S no offense... but am not a muscle car lover. lols.

EWW. Just EWW. Not bad cars but this is just wrong/stupid/idiotic and I will shoot anyone and everyone who buys one for disgracing a good car (The Cougar I mean, not the R8. Cougar wasn't pretty but err... Still, decent enough car).

it's a safe mistake?

One wonders if the guy should have included bigger brakes and tires to round out the disguise with the price of the kit... surely $50k can get you some tasty wheels and rotors?

Or at least a power upgrade for the V6...

Surely $50k would get you one of those TT's with 'blades' and R8 style front bumper (i can't recall the name of the company who supplies these). Although i dislike the TT, i'd certainly have one over any modern Cougar.

Damn. I thought Audi actually brought the R8 to a competitive mark in the US. Which makes this even more disappointing.

I think I'd rather have a $50,000 Cougar that looked like a Cougar. Mutton dressed as Mutton > Mutton dressed as misshapen Bratwurst.

If one was to spend $50,000 on a Cougar, could they make it an Audi R8 rivaling masterpiece? Other than being a Cougar, I think so. They could transplant an EcoBoosted V6 into it. Alternatively, if we are being hypothetical and insane, an SVT Cobra engine; which based on a complex flow chart which I amazingly did not completely make up, would bolt right in. Then, they could take the AWD drivetrain that apprantly did exist on the original Ford Mondeo (that the Cougar is sort of based on) and BAM! You have an AWD Cougar with 430 BHP.
Assuming you find all of these pieces in junkyards (though, you would have to cross oceans in order to actually get said pieces, so transport would factor in as well), one could probably make an Audi R8 slayer for well under $50,000. Based on these facts (or wild-ass guesses, I suppose), Audi is charging thoroughly outrageous prices for the R8.

(Don't mind me. I'm simply the one who thought this was a legitimate Audi model until I saw the side profile and am trying to explain that away in my mind).

You'd still have a crappy chassis. You can't polish a turd.

That's what backyard seam-welding is for! Feel the burn (literally!) !

Unless Ford did something drastic to the chassis when they moved it from the Contour, there is hardly anything wrong with the handling bits underneath.

I agree totally, the Mk1 Mondeo chassis it was based on was a little gem. I know, i've had 3 of them.

But it's still never going to handle like an R8.
