It was only a matter of time. Audi unveils the R8 supercar, and somebody wants to take it racing. Leave it to the Dutch to pick up the slack, as Netherlands-based Creventic BV is preparing the "CR-8" for an assault on endurance sportscar racing.

Thus far, Creventic has been cautious with its modifications. The current CR-8 benefits from a remapped engine management system to produce 430 hp (ten horses over the stock 420) and the removal of the factory-installed low-gear restrictor, as well as a host of baubles and bolt-ons to the body to bring it up to race spec. 18-inch BBS competition rims wrapped in Toyo racing slicks are put in place, a 90-liter racing fuel tank installed and AST suspension components mounted at all four corners. Creventic is also working on squeezing more power out of the RS4-derived V8 engine, a race-spec sequential gearbox and carbon fiber body panels, among other competition modifications.

The first pair of CR-8s will be shown next month at the Dubai Autodrome in the United Arab Emirates for a race-track shakedown and public unveiling, with the first customer cars to be delivered shortly thereafter.

Check out CR-8.com for more details, and the gallery below for a whole mess of pics.

As far as I'm concerned, there will only ever be one R8 racecar... and it's not that one.

Does anyone have an idea of which class it'll be racing in? I'm assuming GT3 or maybe GT2.

That is how supercars should look like... 👍 But too bad nobody is going to make a race version of a Veyron..... :guilty: But like -Fred- said, there could only be one R8, and that has won several Le Mans title already :)

It is made for 24h Races. For Example the 24h Race at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. There it will be in the class "Specials over 4.000ccm" (SP8)

And it is not the only one for that Race :)

NICE!!!! im lookin forward to see this thing on the track. i wonder if itll live up to its ancestor

I like the LMP R8 better. I wouldn't call this privateer effort "Awesomeness." the other R8 did that.

(They had to use "R8" for the car's name...and this'll just confuse them further.)

The problem is, R8's take a long time to get out of the factory. We get one a month, so hopefully nobody's in too big a hurry to test and practice one after it's out of the race shop.

Basic model = win.

Race edition + rediculous rims + ugly paint job + nothing done about the stupid headlights = fail.

Not too bad...

i hope it does good especially for a privateer team and i like the looks of it. now give it the engine out of its namesake.... ill definitely be watching

Getting an edition of 'sport Auto', I found this interesting snippet: (thumbnails)

And the car alone:

They intend to use it at a few 24Hrs-events as well, with the blessing from Audi.

So people are buying R8s and building them into race cars? Hm. I guess they're fast cars, but I didn't know about them being any good for racing...

The recent diesel V-12 car, should it be produced, would be a more suitable choice.

It actually looks sort of tacky, as modern supercar racers sometimes tend to appear as.

Although that may be true, some of these folks will most likely not want to wait for the V12 to be produced.

Actually, after seeing the opinions of those at autocar, I'd say some people are looking to purchase the current model instead of the V12 model. It seems some (atleast at autocar) are concerned that the new diesel will not be as good of a car as what we have now.
Personally, I can't imagine Audi messing up the design but maybe they will. :indiff:

Btw, I think the R8 racer as shown (not the old R8) looks better than the street car thanks to a paint scheme that down-plays the funny panel on the side behind the door.
