Audi sound distortion?

I've been playing around with a fully tuned Audi R8 recently and I noticed at high revs the engine sound sounds distorted...
I tried it through various sound systems and at various volumes and it still sounds the same.
It also happens with one of the standard TT racing cars (can't remember the name right now).

Is this just the sound the car makes or is there something wrong with my system? Or possibly the way I'm set up with the PS3?

Do not adjust your tv set. They are experiencing technical difficultys.

Solution: Don't use exhaust upgrades. They make the car sound terrible.

So it's literally just a terrible sounding car then
