I thought it might be worth putting this information up here to clear up any misunderstandings or confusion about the term AUS/NZ only in the title of online lobbies.

This means that the host is from Australia or New Zealand and that players from those nations are welcome to join. This not a form of Xenophobia , there are good reasons why us "antipodeans" prefer to stick together when it comes to online racing on GT5.

Most of us don't have ultra fast connections. When compared to the rest of the western world , our internet infrastructure is a little dated. Fibre optic connections are available in some capital cities but most of us are still on ADSL connections.

We are a long way from anywhere , basically on the opposite side of the planet from Europe and America where the majority of players are from. You might live in Germany and have a fantastic connection but take into account the physical distance required for signals to travel PLUS the limitations of the network and most times the result is a laggy driver on course.

I have noticed that recently , most foreign players will leave as soon as they see the big lineup of AUS/NZ flags in the room but some obviously don't understand the meaning of the room title. I even saw a room hosted by a English player the other day with "NO AUS/NZ" in the title ! I had to laugh at that , fair enough too.

So that's it , I just wanted you guys to know we don't hate all foreigners. It's just our way of dealing with the limitations of PSN and our crappy internet ! We still have trouble with PSN in our AUS/NZ rooms as it is. It's enough to drive us all bonkers at times , so adding to those problems isn't desirable as I'm sure you can understand.

Thanks for reading .......group hug ?:D:D:D:gtpflag:

Does this need to be in the online racing section ? I'm not trying to organise a race so figured here was better.....?

Very true. I've just moved to Australia and I used to be on Fibre Optic 50mb Broadband in the UK from Virgin. Now I'm on the fastest packed Telstra Offer to the Northan QLD and thats ADSL+2 And it's the slowest Broadband I've ever encountered in my life but appanrelty this is the quickest broadband speed available in my County currently pretty shocking but it's reality and I have to deal with it :( But also whenever I join a GT5 Online Lobby (When I eventually get logged into one) I still have my UK PSN Account that I regularly use for GT5 and it aggrivates me when I join an Australian Room for my Connection speeds to be matched everyone in my Country and they Kick me out for that reason. I refuse to make a New AU PSN Account just so I can display a silly Flag to determine what country I'm from as it doesnt represent where I'm currently based.

There's no need to make excuses.

You guys choose to isolate yourselves. It's not our fault. ;)

Good job making this thread though. I'm sure it'll help a little, but it'll be a slow process before everybody's aware.

Ooh, that bleeping sucks. Only one way to solve your problem. You'll have to move back to the UK. 💡 :dopey:

Hmm , that sucks. It depends on who's hosting too. Some will give you a chance and watch you on track to check for lag , others will get the boot out while you are still loading. I guess if you make it in to the point where you are loaded , maybe type a quick message...."Hey guys , I'm in .....QLD , ignore the flag"

If you race in AUS/NZ rooms regularly I'm sure we will get to know you too which always helps.

Group hug still available? XD

Of course ! I'd love to spend more time in UK rooms too , believe it or not I love the accent and enjoy listening to the banter but being an Aussie , I sometimes get kicked too. It goes both ways huh.
