gt 3 is a good game and all with its exotic cars and fast and expencive ones too but i think that the game should have some australian cars included, like holden or even ford, just basicly the type of cars that u would see on the street.
the type of cars our families drive or that we drive.
and yes some people do own wrx's and supra's but i don't im not so rich:banghead:
i would get a real blast out of driving my real life car in grand turismo and then tuning it!!

yeah i think that shold be good

Polyphony Digital only had a limited number of cars they could put in the game due to the limitations of the disc. I guess they went for Japanese/American/European cars because these would be the biggest markets for the game.

The Australian market is quite small by comparison, and Australian cars are rarely exported and I guess that's why you only have the Tickford XR8.

A nice HRT Commodore to put it up against would have been nice though...

Well they have to ask the manufacturer's for permission to use the cars. One reason why is that they were only allowed permission to those certain cars...

Yea more holdens and i am happpy!!

Yeah, maybe even some "Specialized" manufacturers like Cothsworth, Callaway, Hennessey, etc...

Actually, the lack of cars in GT3 is due to time constraints, not disk space.

I believe EA have the rights to Holden, HSV and HRT.

Not in so many words though.

Well, you get holden in Toca racedriver or was that just because they had the licence for the V8 Supercar challenge motorsport event?

So maybe they could do it that way, like they get the licence for JGTC, DTM, BTCC, ETCC and V8 supercars.

That would make me happy, just think of all those tracks.

You do get Holdens in TOCA RD, but not the HRT cars as they are licenced to Electronic Arts.

Yeah - exactly, hence the reason the game was titled with the official V8 Supercar branding. Similar arrangement we've seen before with Villenueve not appearing in the Sony officially licensed F1 games in the late '90s, and Colin McRae not appearing in the recent official WRC games. As such, they got rights to all the V8 teams that weren't licenses to someone else, those teams not seen being HRT and (I think) Brad Jones Motorsport.

I remember that, when you selected him there was just a black silhouette. Also Murray Walker had to refer to him as 'The Canadian!' which was pretty amusing. That was F1 97 I think, when he was driving for Williams still.

Oh, uh yeah Australian cars.

Yeah i'd like to see some.

I've done a little looking around the internet for Holden cars and so far this would be my choice to be in a Gran Turismo game:

Holden Torana GTR-X:

An old concept that never entered production? Alrighty, then.

In an interview with telstra's game people: http://games.bigpond.com
IIRC
The PD spokesman said that there would be more Aussie cars in GT4.
In addition to HSV, HRT and Ozemail (but not holden as an entire brand - otherwise TOCA could have been quite boring!), EA has rights for the EL GT HO. I don't know if that extends to all GTs or just the EL, but it doesn't bode well for the mighty HO phase 3 :nervous:

BTW in terms of players/population OZ is very much up there... And we're quite fanatical about our cars. Idiot Holden fans, especially. Bloody plastic bag throwers, I'm still annoyed about that ;)

I would not complain having aussie cars.

Specially the Monaro and the Ford Falcon

Just for the record.

The brazilian Chevrolet Omega is actually the Holden Calais (or Commodore)

The only difference of course is the chevrolet logo and the position to drive.

AFAIK - Exports to countries...

Ford - (couldn't find official list)
Britain (just utes IIRC), South Africa, New Zealand

Holden -
Brazil, NZ, Thailand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, Malta and Brunei, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Lebanon, Syria and Yemen, South Africa, Namibia and Botswana

Toyota -
Japan, New Zealand, Thailand, Malaysia, South Africa, PNG, Fiji, Brunei Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, South Pacific Islands

Mitsubishi -
United States, Japan, Taiwan, New Zealand, the Middle East, Puerto Rico, Brunei and other Pacific nations

BTW the SSX is another concept, though it may be produced, it's basically a hatchback adventra. Hoorah.

What the hell is a ute?

Short for 'utility' - I think the US calls it a 'pick-up'.

An Australian example:

bah, hardly ever see them here, more likely to have a van, could never understand the point of pickups.

If you're loading certain types of stuff, particularly overdimensional or unusually shaped gear, they're much easier to load and unload - cheaper to build, too, so they're generally cheaper to buy than an equivalent van, handy if what you're carrying doesn't need to be covered,

A big selling point is comfort in comparison to a van and ease of loading/unloading.

Holden is actually a subdivision of General Motors, you americans know the new Pontiac GTO? right well that's basically a Holden Monaro with pontiac badging and other slight differences. They are also made in Australia and get exported to America so they aren't really American cars. The same goes for the Chevrolet Omega, its just a VY Calais(Commodore) with chevy badging. To make things more complicated, A few of the Holden models like the Astra, Vectra, and Barina(Corsa in the UK) are actually Opels or Vauxhalls badged to be Holden's.

And about EA owning Holden's rights well I saw some list of probable cars in GT4 and a couple of Holden's were there, but we all know how many lists are floating around so its hard to know.

Holden Torana GTR-X:
Only one was made and its in a museum near where I live. It was a concept car that was never mass produced.

Holdens have certainly appeared in non-EA games, such as TOCA, but you will notice that the HRT was not present...

The Tickford Falcon was the only Australian Supercar in GT3, that I know of. This was an older car, right? What about the Tickfords of today? Are they still made?

Definitely - although they're called FPV - Ford Performance Vehicles.

There's been a model change, too, so the XR8 race car looks a lot better, IMO.

This is ex British Formula Ford champ Russell Ingall at the Australian Grand Prix.
