I just spent half of the last 2 days at an Australian Jet Sprint Boat round in Mackay. Here are some pics taken on the 2nd day (they lap much faster on the 2nd day!). As you may know these guys can only turn under power, if they turn the wheel and dont give any power nothing happens.

Their are 3 catagorys

350 cubic inches that put out about 420hp. The lap record for these guys was about 45 seconds and take all turns pretty much flat.
400 cubic inches that put out around 600hp at around 6300rpm, lap record was set by a 17 year old girl who hasnt even got her car license! at 39.5 seconds these also take all turns pretty much flat.
400 supercharged or 500 cubic inches that put up around 900+hp and go from 0-140 in 3 seconds, pulls 4g of accerleration and 6g of cornering. These guys lap around 36 seconds!. They cant quite take all turns flat but nearly. The 2 pics of engines up close are a 400 Supercharged one putting out 1200hp and a 500ci 900hp one.

These guys have a lock to lock of around 90 degress. the guy said if he held it on full lock and guned it in a few seconds he will have done a 180, so smoothness is definetly the key!.

Ive had a ride in a 350 cubic inch version, my friends boss races them. It was awesome. They feel like they turn on a dime and its really cool how quickly they bank from side to side when turning.

that is pretty freaking fast... and amazing how they turn... how deep (or shallow) is that water?

The water wouldnt be more than 1 metre deep (3 and a bit foot).

Yeah, those things are INSANE on TV. they change directions like instantly.

It's basically waterborne autocross. I've never had the pleasure (or ear pain) of watching them first hand, but they're a hoot to watch on TV. Excellent pics!

I went to a race meet quite a few years ago.

Obviously a big stinkin V8 with exhaust manifolds like that is going to make a bit of a racket :sly:

And that rotary boat is simply amazing.
