Being that I am the one who starts most threads in the Auto News section, I am begining to feel like I need to clean up the posts a bit. Thus, I need some suggestions in doing so.

Should I start model-specfic threads, say for example "BMW 3-series News" and continue that on and on, or should I go for brand-specific threads say "BMW News."? Another thing that has been tested is going by platform names, so far only on GM models, so how has that worked out?

So far, it is only a possibility that it will happen. I'm looking for your imput here, and given a week or so, some cleanups may start to happen...

I never noticed any issues with how you are posting up auto news, so you must be doing a good job. 👍 I also like the topics you pick out and how internationally spread out they are(USA, Europe, Japan, etc.).

I would think that brand subforms followed by model specific threads would be in order. BMW subforum -> 1-series, 3-series, 5-series, 6-series, 7-series, & concepts. <- That as my example of what I'm talking about. Break it down so you can more control the topics. Just a thought.

Is there a way to create sub-forums here, or do we leave that to the mods?

I thought this was a good idea at first, but I kinda like how it is mixed up like right now. I usually end up checking out broader range of new info this way. If there were subforum for each make, I'd miss out on the news regarding the company that I'm usually not that interested in.

It's up to the Administrators or Jordan, I believe.

Hmm good point. How about region subforms? North America, Europe, Asia, Australia

SOME organization is needed...it's too sloppy right now in my opinion.

I like that better, but I like my idea even better. :D Subforums by: 1)Manufactures(any company related news) 2)Models(any model related news) 3)Technology(you get the idea)

And, so on.

Sub forums per continent, and then a general News section would be best.

Also interesting subject matter, stuff like Saturn model pricing releases isn't very interesting, I doubt it deserves a thread. The thread's content "Saturn fans rejoice" is an oximoron, actually.

And this should be a PM, but I really dislike the stuff like "I really AM smart!" and the "I'm like Clarkson." To me, that's just immature arrogance. You have a lot of takes on the industry, which is okay, but it irritates me when you flaunt it like that.

That's just me. If this turns into a big beef war, then PM it, I don't think anyone wants to hear it...

^I apologise if my arrogance is a bad thing, but I thought it would be kinda funny. But, I'm just a barbaric American.

I've attempted to post the most interesting news possible day-after-day, so I will take it down that pricing changes aren't too interesting. I still may do it a time or two (the Volkswagen one seemed to work allright), but this is part of the reason why I asked about the cleanup.

I semi-sorta kinda starting doing it by renaming threads to match the content and the shifting stories, placing dates on the threads to give heads-up on updates, etc.

But then you couldn't get a broader view. My idea FTW!
But you can. :( By going into the "Manufacturers" subforum, you can read about Kia to Lexus, Ford to Ferrari. In "Models" Corolla, M5, Countach, whatever. "Tech" subforum could have the latest AWD system from Japan, new V-8 from the States, to the latest clutch system from Europe or something.

You weren't here when Doug was around. He knew more about cars than the internet in its entirety, and he was more stereotypically American. Didn't he even own an oil field or something?

You're doing a good job with the news you post, nonetheless. That was my only problem.

I think its fine the way it is. Segregation isn't always a good thing. I think that if the forum becomes too divided, there wont be as many responses.

For me, I probably wont check an Australian sub-forum to find out about Holden (for example, no offense to Aussies) but when I come to view a huge section on "Auto News" I always tend to click on topics I have not yet viewed.

Sub-Forums just mean more load times, regardless of internet speeds. I may be a little biased because the computers at my internsip suck, but all the same.

I dont mind having it all lumped together but thats just me.....maybe you should have a poll.

Every manufacturer should have it's own thread with the title changed when a new car is added.

I think if we start having sub forums we'll just end up with lots and lots of sub forums. And that'll turn GTP into a labirinth.

That's my opinion.

I think its fine how it is, making a ton of sub forums is a bad thing IMO, most will become dead.

Yes I do agree with the "I really AM smart!" it does come across very arrogant.

I think we should just keep it how we have now, because if we have a thread specifically for each manufacturer less people will look at it, especially if they have to wade through pages of pages to read about a certain car.

I'd keep it simple myself, you seem to post multiple threads on different models from the same manufacturer. Why not post as 'Latest Merc Benz news' and post all that days latest news from them. Some times if you post 3 VW threads at the same time (or there abouts) you'll get little reaction on 2 items of news but the third might end up sparking off a long chain of banter.

Keep up the good work 👍

Cut-and-paste ain't a sin. What YSSMAN is doing actually, is filtering news in that he thinks will be interesting.

Heck, 90% of print media is cut-and-paste anyway. A lot of magazine/newspaper auto articles read:

(Insert page 1 of brochure here)

(Personal comments)

(Insert page 2 of brochure, include poetic marketing language)

(Buying info)

(End)

-----

I think YSSMAN is doing an okay job. And no, I don't think subforums are a good idea. In fact, I think having three (plus two sub-forums) is just too much. Heck, I don't even go into the Videos and Photos section, and I only check the Mazda/Nissan subforums out of pity (even though I own one of each).

Things are all right the way they are.

That is not a good forum to divide up, and it won't happen. And "grouping" related news posts in one thread is not a good idea. As one of my personal favorites, I want to quickly glance through the forum, see if any news is of interest to me, and read it or move on...and I don't think I'm the only one who uses it this way. Posting later updates in an old thread breaks this elegant and efficient flow of information.

You do know that theres literally thousands of car manufacturers out there, literally who wants the job of creating a new thread for them all, and can you imagine how many would never get used, if you ever visit supercars.net when you click on a car theres a list of forum topics on the side, the ammount of cars with zero topics in there is huge. But I agree with your other point, creating sub forums will not do the site any favours. I find myself chacking out info on cars that I wouldn't look for and as a result wfind out about because I just see the thread title and click on it out of curiousity to see comments as it is.

I think when 3 or more cars are lauched/announced from the same manufacturer they can all be done in one thread. the discussion will start out mentioning them all but after a while the one or two that people are most interested in will take focus so as The Cracker said, it would prevent new threads being posted and not being replied to because the other VW in the other enw thread is that little bit more interesting or has sparked a good discussion etc. But regarding the structure of the forums themselves I see nothing wrong with how it is.

All lies. He’s an 18-year-old from Colorado.

Anyway, I have no problem with the way the Auto News forum is going right now. As Jordan said, re-using threads = no bueno.

and I only check the Mazda/Nissan subforums out of pity (even though I own one of each).

Please no need to pity the Nissan Sub forum, I like it the way it is, not a constant flow of posts but when someone does its usually a Nissan enthusist (or the odd entertaining ludicrous claim ;)) or someone that wants info on a Nissan and I am more than willing to help.

Yep spot on, thats how I like to view it.

Avoiding Off-Topic debate here, bottom line is he had an incredibly vast knowledge of automobiles and the iundustry in general. There is no arguing that.

If you are worried about the Auto News forum becoming a mess, I think it is fine how it is. You could of course have a moderator lock topics after they die out.

Agree with Jordan & VIPERGTSR01: That's how I like to view them, too.

@VIPERGTSR01: Oh well... It's just sad to me to see so few posts, but yeah, it's nice that there's a place for people to go when they have questions. :)

@EBiggs: Spot on. 👍
