almost finished all pro series. my driving skills have drastically improved as evidenced by the TT's times. still something missing, I want to drive with finesse and style no more barging my way to the finish line. been re-running races using the manual setting, seems I'm braking way to early or revving high and just coasting. any tips on when to shift?, should I follow the indicator? what does the "+3,4 etc" really mean?
thanks

Each corner is a bit different for each car. Some corners you can brake much later than when it starts flashing, and keep it in a gear higher than it suggests. One suggestion I have is to never go into first gear, I believe in cote d'azur it tells you to do this on the hair pins. I usually run them in second, and even in third in the f1 car to prevent spins. Noone gets manual immediatly.

Welcome, randod. Enjoy your stay at GTP.

Manual just takes practice until you develop an ear for it. I find it much easier to drive, because I don't need to second-guess what the trans is going to do.

The little red number is just the suggested gear for the next corner. It blinks when you hit the recommended braking point, which is when you should begin to slow and downshift. It's just a guide and is not always 100% correct.

I usually upshift when the upshift light comes on, but that varies by car. In a Skyline you probably will do better shifting at least 500 rpm below that. Some cars do better up high - I've actually run entire laps of Apricot Hill with the upshift light blinking, in a 1100-hp Viper GTS with the race transmission. You just need to pay attention to whether the car is still accelerating or not. But you definitely want to avoid the rev limiter (typically a few hundred rpms above the redline), because that will slow you down by cutting fuel to the engine.

thanks for the feedback, I've been practising since my post and starting to develop a "feel" for shifting. my solution has been to downshift as I brake lightly and use the engine braking as well as the brakes. the hardest part is finding the right braking point. guess more sleepless night are in the future.
thank you
