So after this video turned up from Fanatec showing off a new Porsche GT CSW rim:

I was unclear what the game on the screen was with most assuming pCars, however VirtualR uncovered the truth, or some of it at least.

A few days ago, I posted a first story on the rather mysterious video recorded by Fanatec, showing their racing hardware in action with an unknown Porsche racing title at Hockenheim.

As confirmed by Fanatec’s Thomas Jackermeier, the software used is a brand new sim title that has not yet been announced. While that just added to the confusion pretty much, more bits and pieces are starting to become available now.

Below is a little video showing more of the title, letting us check out a pretty GUI and a big Porsche-themed promo poster titled “Porsche Motorsport Online”. The url on the GUI takes us to Automaniax, a website that offers little more than the possibility to leave an email-adress and a pretty Porsche background right now, along with the intriguing promise “Real Cars. Real Tracks.Real Motorsports.”.

After a bit of research, I stumbled across the following posted in the Rage3D forums:

It’s a full simulation game in development with Porsche currently and they plan on picking up other makes and licenses, it’s supposed to be a continually expanding online racing community (according to one of the devs)

I was at the new Porsche boxster launch this week and they had 4 sim units set up. Was very nice and felt very good, very realistic, amazing sounds and great models. The only car available was the gt3 cup and it was on hockenheim but I was very impressed. The race had 24 cars on track at once and the graphics were quite good.
Unfortunately, this is where the trail of info ends right now but that should be more than enough to get excited about the upcoming Automaniax title…..

So, a new online sim in the works, Porsche licensed with real race tracks. Sounding good so far and will certainly be keeping an eye out for more. The website has little more than a nice pic and a box to enter your email.

EDIT: Having entered my email, it sent me an email saying this:
Thank you for signing up for Automaniax!

We will shortly release the closed BETA-Version of automaniax.com (about end of
April) , which provides a new race experience online.
With real cars, real tracks, and real motorsports. And that for free. We would be
happy, if you take part in this community and race experience.
We will release more details to you shortly before the release, so that you are
one of the first who can check out this experience.
Hopefully we see soon on automaniax.com

So a closed Beta is not far away at all.

Heard about it on VirtualR.net too. Rumours on their comments section and on the WMD thread about this same topic suggest that Slightly Mad Studios is somewhat involved. In fact, I found the following conversation on VirtualR.net's comments:

Random VirtualR guy: "Ian Bell on 1st chair and Suzy Wallace in the back"
Thomas Jackermeier: "You are 50% correct"
2nd Random VirtualR guy: "Suzy in the back"

A quick google search will direct you to SMS's page where they have a profile of Suzy Wallace, who turns out is SMS's Producer. Still, things are somewhat obscure and it's better not to jump to any conclusions. Best thing to do at this moment is to sign up for the closed beta. ACR Beta+Pre-Alpha pCARS+Porsche Online Beta = One happy year for simracers!!!

I'm in. Especially since EA aren't making (and would have no clue how to correctly make) a remake of NFS porsche any time soon, although the lack of country driving will be missed.
Thanks.

Porsche is one brand that deserves a good sim/racing game.

They would have a good game if they gave their licence to Pholyphony. ;)

Ahahahahaha!!! Nice one!!
You're kidding right?
Dude there's so many titles out there that make GT5 look like a toy! if PD get's that license they'll render a Porsche that sounds like a hair dryer and handles like a Black and Decker clothes iron!

Just got this, cant wait:)

I received it too. The "community" and "have a say during the on-going creation period" sounds very Project C.A.R.S to me, but that's not a bad thing at all!!!

I'm somewhat excited for this. I really hope it shapes up to be something good and that it tolerates non-high end systems like my mid-range gaming laptop.

Automaniax, pC.A.R.S, Asseto Corsa, rFactor 2, GTR3, ahhh!!! Such a year for sim-racing!!!

Back in April, I posted a first story about Automaniax Porsche Online, a new title that first info was surfacing on.

After quite a while of silence, there have been plenty of news on the project today, most of it being of the rather worrying kind.

Earlier today, Automaniax released a first video trailer of their Porsche Online racing title. The trailer quickly caused a stir in the World of Mass Development forums as Slightly Mad Studios’ distinct graphical quality is easily visible from watching the trailer.

The release of the video did not just irritate the members but stunned the studio staff themselves as Automaniax Porsche Online is using the studios work without their permission as Ian Bell confirmed in the WMD members forum:

You're happy that a site for a game illegally using both the engine and content from another game is back up and that you hope the beta (which will never exist.... sort of, play pCARS instead) will be good? Did you even read the VirtualR thread? :odd:

What this guys are doing together with Porsche stinks! Hope they get shut down and find themselves in a nice lawsuit in the process!

Sharky.

Sorry...didn't read it.

it looks like the game will use gmotor2 engine and will basically be the same as the carrera cup mod for rfactor. they might have even got the models from that game.
