Hi guys,

When I was playing GT4 (I say that because my PS2 laser's gone bust, and stupid SSX 3 corrupted my ENTIRE memory card) with my trusty Driving Force Pro, something really annoyed me. Whenever I oversteered, the wheel would turn in the opposite direction exactly the right way so I didn't have to do anything. This is incredibly annoying, so is there any way of disabling this without turning off the FF? I'm sure this problem does not happen with real cars.

Actually the real cars tend to do much the same, the wheels want to turn in such a way that they aren't slipping sideways.

What settings were you using for the DFP? Professional or Simulation, Steering Assist or or off...

100% FF, 900 degrees, auto-tuning off, and I don't know anything about "simulation" or "professional" modes... :p

I don't think that you can turn it off as it's a part of the force feedback, so you have everything or nothing.

Real cars do the same thing as long as the power steering doesn't interfere. It's a natural product of castor in the steering geometry. If you watch car programs like Top Gear or Fifth Gear a lot, sooner or later you'll notice the presenter dealing with some oversteer by basically letting the steering wind through his fingers all by itself. Tiff Needell tends to favour this approach. The skill is not so much in winding on the lock, but stopping it before too much is wound on (castor effect will tend to wind on a bit too much as it will be trying to make the car go straight on, while the driver may in reality still be trying to negotiate the rest of the corner, so want a little bit less opposite lock so that the car continues to turn) and also winding it off at the right time and right speed.

EDIT: On the other hand, perhaps you have the Steering Help turned on, or the steering mode is not simulation or something like that. Looking at those settings might make a difference. In the Garage, go to, um, settings or options, or perhaps its options under settings.... look there and also under the DFP settings for player 1.

Thanks, I'll try fiddling with things once I get a new 🤬 laser...! I guess that's what they mean by "catching" a slide. Thanks, man.
