I know it's not late-braking news, but noteworthy just the same. Who here didn't own at least one Matchbox car? Or didn't play with them at some point? Who knows how many car enthusiasts he spawned, and how much business he created for all sort of automotive industries.

Considering my nephews play with their little cars all the time, I know future generations are just as fascinated as my parents and I were in playing with them.

Thanks for the memories, Jack. He definitely created one of my favorite all-time toys; and even though they didn't need batteries and computers to work, nor did they need their own Saturday morning cartoon to boost sales.

Ah wow, I don't believe I never heard about this before. I have so many happy memories of tooling about with those little cars. :nervous:

I had a few matchboxes when I was young, but my most collection are Tomy's
these toy cars kinda promote imagination for me ... btw RIP

That man surely has given me many moments of joy and probably as many grey hairs to my mom... :p the best toys ever for a little boy!

Damn, I pretty much have my whole childhood to thank to him (that, and the guy who created LEGO).

RIP Jack

*Makes a 21 matchbox engine sound salute*

I still have about 200 and I still use 'em...

Including a Bugatti Veyron (used to have 2), a Porsche Carrera GT, 2 Lambo Murcielagos, lots and lots of Ferraris, 2 F1 cars, and many more.

I reckon i only ever started to like cars because of this guy. So if he wasnt here, i wouldnt be here :(

Same.

I have dozens of the things sitting on my desk. In fact, to this day I still buy them, at nearly 20 years of age. I'd be really surprised if I ever stop.

Lol. Ive got some right in front of my computer. I feel kinda embarresed to go into the toys section now though, all these little kids are like wth at me :(

For more than a few years, these were the only thing I saved my allowance for.
I've still got 'em all, too. Well used, they are.
