    Competition 85

    Theme chosen by Apok

THEME: In their words: "Side profile.

Take a photograph showcasing the side of a car (or cars)."

    • Editing: Levels, Curves, Colour Balance, Brightness/Contrast, Hue/Saturation, Shadows/Highlight adjustments, Cropping, or anything else capable in the development process or with filters and common special lenses (such as gradients) are allowed to be used in Photoshop or other image editing softwares. Other adjustments and effects are not allowed to be used in your picture. You may also use Unsharp Mask.

    • Photographs should ideally include some composition and effect - Base the photo on a studio shoot, or even use diorama/composition to create a realistic setting (you could position the model and camera in such a way in an outside setting so that it appears to be a 'real' car)
    • No HDR shots.
    • Shots must be taken between January 2015 and the present day.
    • Work that has been shown previously (outside of the competition) is allowed.
    • One entry per competition. You may change your entry as many times as you wish, however the entry you wish to submit should clearly be labelled with "Final Entry".
    • Pictures posted should preferably be around 900px on their longest edge. You may link to a larger photograph in the post (I believe this is the size limit allowed by the Photography forum, however it likely hasn't been updated in some time)
    • All scales of model are allowed unless specified.

Deadline for each bi-weekly competition will be 10:30pm EST on a Sunday, poll will be up by 11:00 pm EST
Voting will close on the following Sunday at 11:00 EST

This competition will close on October 8th.

And just because I think seeing how shots are set up can be helpful (or at least amusing!), here is mine. :p

I'm not sure where the boundary is between "model" and "toy". It's a 1/64 Hot Wheels, for which there is a Model Collectors thread, but it's most definately used as a toy. @LongbowX?

@Roo I don't have any problems with that, it's quite creative in fact! Most people do try to make it look "realistic", but going a different way is appreciably unique. I approve.

To enter, do I need to use Flickr, to can I just upload a file here with the proper dimensions?

Using a photo I took 2 months ago. Oldie, but I think it's good enough.

Decided to go the traditional route and aim for realism.

I decided to do a Petit Le Mans inspired picture this week. I had a different variation that looked like a sunset, but I decided on this driving-into-the-night one instead.

Didn't have much time for a shoot, did one session but would have liked to try more stuff and most shots didn't come out as sharp as I would have liked. Also I was going to post a setup shot, but forgot to shoot the setup before I pulled it down. :banghead:

Too bad because I'd love to see how you did the lighting in this.

Well to describe it basically two lights. One flat panel light underneath at the back and a smallish spot light off to the left front, mostly facing in a slight downward angle to cast a little front light and a touch on the back wall, but not be too harsh.

I realized today was the last day so I had to rush something together. I was planning on doing silhouettes, but then I figured silhouettes and profiles were two different things.

@NISM0_SKYLINE I think a silhouette and a side profile could apply to same image for sure.

In any case, a little bit late, but the Poll is now up.
