I'm about to purchase a vehicle that is 10+ hours from me and was thinking about using a transporter instead of driving. My question is, do any of you know of a reputable transportation service? open or closed - doesn't matter.

Thanks in advance,
Monster

Only if you tell me what this vehicle is. Wait, I dont know any transportation services. But tell me what the vehicle is anyway.

You son of a....guy:D. Well if its form the dealership the dealership often has dealership-to-dealership transports running regularly. You could ask then to chuck your car onto one of them.

They are.

Back on topic; 10 hours isn't all that bad, it's not like you're going coast to coast. Bring a friend with you, and go there Road Trip style!

I had gotten quotes of about $700 from Miami to St. Louis when I bought a 240sx a couple years ago. Ended up just buying a one way plane ticket and driving the car back.

The car is in Indiana and I'm in South Dakota, the 10 hours drive was a bit of a guesstimate, I'd say more like 11-12.
The main problem: I have access to a car trailer and a new Commercial TurboDiesel Ford BUT, since it is commercial it has commercial plates. Meaning, in order for me to take it out of S.D I would have to pay a ton of fees, and even more for fuel..

The one way ticket would be the most cost effective way but I don't fly. :)

They are A032R's, which I will be using on the street.

do that.

Yep, do what PR suggested and turn it into a fun adventure.
Professional car transport is expensive no matter which way you slice it. I payed $1500 to have my girls car shipped from Virginia to Colorado. Cheapest price around too as it was shipped uncovered. Boy it was a mess when it got here.

I heard the only downfall to them is they are insanely loud. The car is extremely traction limited so I have no choice. :)

boom - What company did you go through?

I thought most autocrossing tires were DOT legal, but not suggested for street use due to VERY short life, and could be damaged easier. That may of just been the Hoosiers and Kuhmos that have two, smallllll lines for "tread". I was thinking of those A032s for my autocrossing wheels for the RS. But, all that is gone and past. I'm thinking of the Yokohama ES100s, for my chalk-full-of-traction vehicle. So.... Going to tell us what kind of car it is?

:D :D

I bet it's a 3rd gen RX-7. That's all I can gather, he likes RX-7s, he said that the car he's getting is traction-limited, it sounds about right.

Trust me, I want nothing more than to have another Rx-7 in my driveway. But.. My financial situation will not let me do that. The car I'm looking at has 1/3 the performance of an FD.

It is a T _ _ _ _ D _ _ _ _ - Turbo Dodge

Damn Monster, I can't remember. It was almost 3 years ago. All I remember is that the company was based out of Maryland. So I'm sure they wouldn't do you much good.

Sorry man.

During my mad dash this past week trying to find a transporter, I completely forgot about those 2-wheel car trailers and my sisters new 4-Runner. :)

Out of the two GLH-T's that I was looking at, I decided to buy the one that is closer to me in Denver Colorado. If everything goes as planned, we will be picking it up next weekend.

Thanks for all your help fellas

sorry, but what is a GLH-T, i'm not down with the factory designated model numbers all you people keep throwing down.

I thought you were buying a Syclone Monster? But if you want to transport it why don't you rent one of those car trailers from U-haul and trailer it back.

It was a Limited Edition turbocharged Dodge Omni that was built from 1985-1986. The thing is most people like yourself don't know about them, and therefore don't expect the ass kicking you'll get. :D

The Syclone project has been put on hold, maybe indefinitely. And we are going to rent a trailer from U-Haul. :)

The 1986 Dodge Omni GLH Turbo does 0-60 in 8.1 seconds and does the quarter mile in 16.2.

Unless you are racing a Hummer H2 I don't know what kind of ass-kicking you are planning with it.

Their quicker than that, and 97% of GLH-T's I have seen were nowhere near stock.

You can get down into the 13's with a couple mods.

It doesn't matter what a website says, I'm not internet racing here. neonduke should know more about their actual numbers than me.

The car I bought only has a couple mods, I'll post the timeslips as soon as I get a few passes.

Nice Monster! :D

Rumple, the Mopar 2.2 Turbo has a very solid bottom end, once you get a good head gasket in there and keep the head form squirming around with aftermarket bolts, the engine responds very well to more boost, as long as you keep the A/F ratio in the safe range. I think in the Onmi it was rated at ~150 hp (?) but factory versions of this motor went all the way up to 225 hp. Thats a lot in a small car.

Me and a friend took my car to the track Saturday morning for some baseline runs before we tear the motor/trans out. The only mod was a 3" cat-back exhaust, boost was at the factory 10psi, and the spare, jack and tools were removed, car had 1/2 tank of gas. The runs were made at 10:00 in the morning with a cold, unprepped track. 1st run was a 15.6 @ 88mph, 2nd run was a 15.1 @ 93mph, and the 3rd run was a 15.2 @ 95mph.

The car spun all the way through 1st, 2nd and a little in 3rd. 60 ft's were in the 2.2-2.5 range. Granted the tires are a little bald and I didn't warm them in the water box, I was affraid of my transmission going south once the tires hooked. We still had to drive 40 miles back to the city!!

16 second car? maybe with your mom driving. Realistically with just exhaust, it's a mid 14 second car, if you can get it to hook. Ah well, it was enough to beat a few Mustang GT's. :)
