first question - can the avatars be png files?

this leads to my next question - I'm going to use a web-server to update this png file whenever my winamp song changes. There is an option to link to a url but would this work?

Most definitely... all of my avatars have been PNG files for almost the past year now. (Such an awesome image format, ain't it?)

hmmm...gonna give it a whirl then - if it doesn't work, i'll switch back to Nazisoft or I'll make the Penguin of Doom I've been meaning to make for the past few months

D'OH - spoke too soon. The server isn't accepting registrations for at least a few weeks

Nope, that won't be possible. When you use the URL option in your profile, the server simply goes out to retrieve that file from the remote location, and then stores it here on GTP. It is not a "live" image coming directly from that server, so unfortunately your Winamp plugin will not work.

That idea has the potential to be very annoying too I would think? Especially if multiple people have that feature?
