Avatar Suggestion

The other day I noticed that a new member on the site had started using my Avatar, so I quickly changed mine. I was just thinking that it would be a fairly decent idea to only allow an avatar to be used by one member at one time. If two people posting to a thread have got the same avatar it can be confusing trying to work out who you are talking to.

Let me know what you think.

True... That could be an idea :)

Ive had to change my avatar a couple of times because of that or diddnt chose a certain avatar because I new somone else had it already and i diddnt want the same

Ya this is true but there are alot of other avatars to choose from in the site. Now when you reach 200 post you can use a custom avatar that you wish. Soon you will be there and it won't be a big deal. :)

No, that's not a fair way to manage avatar use. What if someone reserved an avatar, only posted a message or two, and never came back? Their avatar would then be restricted to other members forever. I rarely see duplicate avatars around the forum, and even if I did, I doubt it would be a big enough problem to warrant restrictive measures.

*nods head*

BTW, Jordan, I myself have a suggestion/idea... for us 56k users, it's quite annoying to wait for all the avaters to upload on the control panel... maybe a text version with hyperlinks to each avater? Or is something like that even possible to change? (I've worked with vBulletin forums, so I know there's many limitations...)

Fair point. I assumed the site would automatically de-register you if you were inactive for a few months. Plenty of other web sites do (I remember once I 'lost' my Hotmail account because I didn't use it for 3 months, way back in the days when the Internet wasn't in most peoples homes). I guess the suggestion does have its limitations. I'll just wait till I get to 200 posts, then I'll have to design my own avatar.

Although it could easily be done, even though I'm a 56k user myself, I just don't see how this would be an advantage. It will take you longer to look at the available selections by clicking on each avatar's name, looking at it, and then going back to the page and repeating the process over again than it would to just load some of the avatars on the page itself.

No, that issue has already been debated, and I think the number is too low as it is. Getting your own custom avatar is a reward for posting 200 posts. Besides, how many other forums allow 100x100 pixel, 35 KB avatars?

fair one.

Wouldn't know about other sites. I'm only a member of this one. It was the only one i found intresting enough to bother signing up with.

Cheers
