Yea so whats up with this avian(sp) flu gogin around. I heard that somewhere in Toronto a nursing home had an outbreak. So what are you thoughts and stuff. I for one am kind of scared living kind of close to canada.
Nursing home! Everybody's dead. I think I read that fatality rate out of little over 100 people in Asia(China?) was over 50%! When I read that, I wanted to get a flu shot for the first time in my life. Then my coworker told me it probably won't work on the bird flu.LamboracerYea so whats up with this avian(sp) flu gogin around. I heard that somewhere in Toronto a nursing home had an outbreak. From what I understand, there is no evidence bird flu(avian influenza) can be trasmitted between people. Only from bird to human, as far as we could tell. One article did say that flu virus is easily mutated though. So if someone who has a regular flu come in contact with a bird flu, it can mutate into one nasty flu virus that can spread between people. When WHO said something about bird flu killing 150 million people, they were probably taking the possibility of the mutation into consideration.powripperThey talk about this flu every year, and how there is supposed to be an outbreak or whatever. They dont even have evidence it can transmitted a from human to another human (at this point). Also I remeber hearing that it wasn't avian bird flu that the people had in the nursing home.
Anybody remember SARS? What happened to it? Oh yeah, the media hype died down. SARS was an epidemic, killed HUNDREDS in a year. That is hundreds in East Asia, which is overpopulated with over a billion people. And that can be passed from human to human. The average flu and cold each kill tens of thousands a year. The same year SARS was hyped there was a heat wave in France that killed over ten times the people.powripperThey talk about this flu every year, and how there is supposed to be an outbreak or whatever.
