Awful GT Mode

I have got some conserns about GT4 which i feel does not make it as good as it could have been, as a realistic driving simulator! Firstly what is the point in having the S1, S2 and S3 tyres? Are no where near realistic and have far to much grip! yet we have the n1, n2 and n3 tyres which are more realistic but yet again why have 3 versions? Arguable the n1 and n2 tyres are the most realistic and are the most fun to use in the game, yet you cannot use them in GT mode in the various halls, the AI cars are programmed to use the S tyres? WHHYY? why must we have to use mega gripping tyres in GT mode? Its awful? If the tyres are unrealisitic in grip then the physics of the car therefore become wrong! Why have PD done this? I have given up on GT Mode now, i find myself running the German touring car championship alot to get the cash, buy the car and scoot over to Arcade mode, set N1 tyres and AI difficulty to over 7 and it is fantastic! GT Mode should have been made with these parameters in mind!! Also why have al the Le Mans cars go well over the actual hp? E.g. Bentley Speed 8 IRL has around 600bhp while in GT4 it has over 750bhp? The same goes for the older le mans cars e.g. sauber IRL has around 730bhp while in GT4 it has well over 900bhp! At first i thought this was to make both era's of le mans car similar in performance but considering they all gain around over 200bhp this cant be the case. Why are we forced to have unrealistic power on these cars? Why cant the original power be accurate then we have the option with tune ups to make it more competative with the older cars!!

Can someone please clarify for me why PD has made such a ****-up on these matters? Also does anyone agree with me?

You're not alone. Many of us are as puzzled as you are about the way PD has implemented GT mode. All your points are valid. For many of us, PD's refusal to provide the means that would allow us to customize Gran Turismo mode into a demanding challenge is far and away the program's biggest deficiency.

It's probably some sort of marketing decision. Judging from the way the game sells, they've made the right decision. Those of us looking for a real challenge will have to look elsewhere, unfortunately.

they probely made them faster so more people want to buy the car

duno mate i was wandering the same thing actually, but could not be bothered wrighting all of what you put down, maybe its just another one of the many bugs in gt4 that has no explanation to why its there.

By the way congrats on getting into uni, ive just finished a 3 year multimedia design course at de montfort uni in leicester, will probably finish with either a 2.2 or a low 2.1 just have to wait and see when the grades come through. good luck with your course.

I know that with regards to the cars, the real ones are more than capable of producing thoes power outputs without any mods other than having the restrictors removed, so thats probably whats happened, PD have given them the power without the restrictors.

Yeah, the game is not perfect, but I don't mind it too much.

I'm wondering why they didn't use the system as in GT2 where you had to buy the driving aids, before you could actually drive 'easy'. People should spend money on those systems instead of having them equipped already. In the cars where these systems are standard equipped, they should set these things on 0, so you have to change it yourself.

I sincerely do not understand the basis of your complaint.
Just because the race is restricted to the use of either Standard or Sports Tires does not prevent you from running N1s to your heart's content. The same goes for the events where the tires are unrestricted. You can use WHATEVER tires you want to in these events, including N1s.

Your entire post leads me to believe that you consider yourself to be an excellent GT4 driver. Here is a challenge for you: Equip your Mazda 787B with N1 tires and enter the Gran Turismo World Championship in the Professional Events Hall. You will earn 200 A-Spec points per race and someone as skilled as yourself should be able to breeze right through each of the ten races with no problem.

Ha Ha Ha

In real life some tires also have more grip than others. You wouldn't do a professional race in real life with some cheap tires that come standard on a Fiat panda either, would you?

Though many faults can be found in GT mode, or things that should have been better.... but the points you mentioned don't bother me.

What i am saying is what is the point in the existance of the sport tyres? I now i could use the N tyres if i wished but i would be greatly hindered compared to the other cars. And at no point have i suggested i am great a GT4...i am not that much of an anorak to bother. What i am saying is i feel GT Mode would be far more flexible for all abilities of the GT market if you were able to customize the game a bit more. PD have dictated to us that we cant have accurate HP of the le mans cars, they have also dictated that we cant decide when we want to save the game or not (autosave) and that they have decided to restrict our game play. I supose i would be satisfied if i was able to use my garage cars in GT Mode in Arcade mode like i was able to in GT3. In my opinion the graphics, cars choice and car physics and tracks are a major improvement over the previous games, however the gameplay is still hindered for unknown reasons

Indeed lots of little things should of been improved to make GT4 truly great. Only being able to use "S" tires in gt mode bites ruins some of the fun. Buying or winning a rally car then having to go by dirt and or snow tires for the car also bites. They really need some independent testers to give solid feed back on the game as it is being made or something. It could be or it might appear that they do not test the fully completed game very well. I know that they work on each differnent element then put it together towards the end.

this is one of the dumbest rants i have read on here...
all of this game is based on racing. in real life if you are racing (not a lapping session) you wil be running at minimum a set of r-compound tires. in case you dont know what these are... they are a sticky semi-slick tire that is still street legal but has a treadwear rating of less than 100 (usually 40 to 60). these tires are meant for street cars racing on track.
the "n" tires are street tires that you would run on a daily driver... you might use these for lapping days at the track, but you would never race on them as they are not designed for that and will overheat and get greasy, not to mention ruin the tread and chunk blocks off.
that is why the cars are running sport tires.
if you want to drive the car in as close to rl (stock) form as possible (with fairly realistic lap times) then you can go to the "n" tires.

and also... i am willing to bet that the sport tire shod cars will be running lap times close to the rl times on an r-comp shod car.
for example on a 45second auto-x course an r-comp car will generally be 2-3 seconds faster with everything else being equal.

I have not problem with sports tires. If we took a road car racing on a regular basis we would not use normal tires.

Sure if we were to do it on a one off basis or on a strict budget we would but is it meant to be a racing game or a driving game ?

I am happy with what they have done but would also have no prob if they forced us to use the worst tires.

I don't think the S tires have too much grip, either. I think they're about right. The cars get quite squirrely at high speed and get very sensitive to steering input - be smooth or be unstable.

indeed!

WHY?

Why do birds suddenly apear, every time you are near!

just like me, they long to be close to you.......

just play people. its a game. its not perfect. if you want perfect go and race a real car.

Is the Fiat realistic Ving ? Which tires do you prefer ?

Good thing nobody is forcing you to play GT4 then !...

Autosave can be switched off in the Options menu 💡

NFI mate. I just like the looks of it and flinging it around a tight track :)
not many fiat coupes in Oz :(

We need an Aussie track too. What about a city track based on Sydney ?

The full Adelaide GP track. Anyway I digress.

Back on topic the game needs to be playable / enjoyable to the masses. Simple commercial reality.

Sim tires only would reduce its marketability. Sure it is what some of us want but I am pretty sure the masses want a decent amount of grip.

Don't we all have a mate who likes many other driving games and the first time they play GT they say it sucks ie too hard ? I think we all do.
Enjoy driving whatever they ask you to drive.

I always thought that Fiat Coupé looks like a supercar, but is a peppy Italian sport coupe. I think it has some supercar cues, just that it isn't as long and as powerful as say, a Ferrari Testarossa or a Lamborghini Murcielago. Who said small cars have to be boring, eh player?

Now on the main subjects. I have a lot to discuss, but I'll just address the tire situation. If I was your average Internet bum, I'd tell you that you're whining too much and need to have your diapers changed. But since I'm a suggestive young lad, let me just tell you straight up. I'm not a racer; I don't even have a driver's license (working on it this summer), but I can tell you that I think GT4 is going for some strategy. There are different types of tires available in the game in addition to the racing tires. Hell, GT1 only had a certain tire arrangement you had to choose from. Back then, your car had regular tires, but you had to select between Semi-Racing and Racing Tires if you wanted Tire upgrades. When it comes to front/rear tires, you had to choose between Hard/Hard, Hard/Soft, Soft/Hard, and Soft/Soft. Now, you have some options as to what types of tires you can use.

There's still strategy with Sport Tires. Try to find a certain combination that works. Think about the length of the race and adjust accordingly. It isn't disappointing.

Actually I started playing GT mode fitting N2s on every car. Then when I started playing beginner hall I was amazed how much PD made the game harder. Finally some competition, I was in for a treat! Then after completing it, it had struck my mind I finished beginner hall with N2s. Pretty much dissapointing, but it goes to show how much fun it would've been if realistic tires were fitted. I never experienced the grip of a racing tire before in RL, so I can't really comment on the matter. But for stock production cars, definitely N tires gives you the most fun.

If you want to try something a bit different try Forza Motorsport. It plays and handles different to GT4,i wouldn`t say that one is better than the other ( i left the`mines better than yours`argument at school 22 years ago!) i think they both have great qualities.I bought an xbox and a ps2 because of the different games available.I am happy with both of them. GT4...9/10 Forza .....9/10 :)

I agree, the testing stage of the GT games needs some serious improvement. At the moment it's very poor. It's a shame really, if GT4 had some in-house and some independent testing for a few more months all of these problems would have been avoided.

GT4 is a work of genius marred by inconsistencies, inaccuracies, glitches, bugs and missing features. All we can wish for, I guess, is that GT5 will have some good testing and will be a much better game. :)

Realy? i dont find it at all realistic when you realise that you can pull more then 2g in a stock vauxhall corsa with S tyres! Considering in the real world around 1.3g is a lot for a hypdercar. I do realise the G meter is also a waste of time as most of the time you pull 1g just by doing little adjustments when going down the straights but it does give an indicator of how fast you are going. If you look at the speedo when going around corners you will see the mph (or kph) mimics that of a racing car even if you are in a stock mini etc

Didnt realise you could turn the autosave off, thanks for the heads-up!
