Hi all!
After completing premium sports car races with my Aston Martin DB9 Coupe ´03 (price car, super gold colour), I went testing at N.ring, as usual.
Something strange happened
So I chose Free run and started the session, A-speccing using DFP as always. Following occured:
A-spec and B-spec were "mixed"; I saw my Aston driving as in B-spec mode, preparing for the first lap!? The screen was like in B-spec (those pace numbers and all). But when the car had to turn to the starting line, it just went straight (loosing speed, I had no control over the car) and colliding with fence. And the collision made my DFP react - like driving into fence at low speed.
The car stopped and eventually started moving backwards downhill.
OK. I didn´t really worry at this point. I quit the session and changed to Ford Mustang GT ´05. And the same happened again!!! Even at a different track (Infineon, if I remember right) things were wrong.
I changed back to Aston Martin and went back to N.ring and nothing had changed.
At this point I was shocked: No free lapping anymore? No testing anymore? WTF is happening here?!
I returned again to the main screen, went Home, carage, don´t really remember what I did, perhaps I checked my statistics. Anyway I decided to go last time(before shutting my PS2 off) to N.ring with my Aston M. And guess what? Everything worked well!!! The way was clear for some serious testing!
Conclusion: I´m going to backup my GT4 game data regularly, beginning right now.

OK folks. Has anybody experienced similar bug, or is it a one in a million case?

Oh, my GT4 is PAL version
Thanks for your time

This same thing happened to me on my NTSC version. I posted about it in the GT4 Bugs thread, but I didn't hear anyone else with a similar story:

CrackHoor
I ran into a funky quirk in GT4 the other night: I'd done some GT Mode stuff, then backed out to the main menu to do some arcade Time Trial. I chose the George V track, and the Alfa 155 Race Car, went into quick tune, then chose A-Spec. The race started with the autopilot driving, but the B-Spec race display was on.

When the game got to the point where it should hand the driving to me, the car just coasted into the wall and stopped. My DFP couldn't control the car, but it was spinning and pulling feedback from it. The B-Spec display was still on, but B-Spec was not driving. I tried it with a couple other car/track combos and got the same results, but a reset put everything back to normal. I suspect the game just got a couple 1's and 0's mixed up - no biggie. Anyone else see anything like this?

I have had some strange occurances with the game, but turning it off, back on, and hitting reset, always fixed the problem. The PS2 is like a computer, and I just consider what I do as rebooting it.

im thankful, nothing has happend to me yet..........oh yeah apart from memory card corruption and losing everyting.

gt4 seems to be a very buggy game. any views on this?

Same has happened to me, except with a CLK GTR on Super Speedway. I think I may have posted that in the bugs thread as well, not sure.

My view is that is a stupid thing to say with no backup evidence.

I have been playing GT4 for freeking ages and the only thing that has stuffed up is when i swapped memory cards ingame and saved to it, losing all my cars. That was part my fault, and won't happen again.

Other then that, its running fine. Buggy my foot.

Well, I these are my thoughts.

GT4 is in the even numbers, and it seems to me that the odd GT's had fewer cars, but they didn't have many bugs. The even number GT's (2 & 4) have many cars, but also lots of bugs. Some of the bugs I have heard of include:

If you don't do Mission 1 as your first mission, you don't get 100%
The game locks up on occasion
The B-Spec and A-Spec modes are mixed up
Do something wrong in the pits and you stay there for over an hour
Replays (with AR cheats enabled) screw up...BIG TIME
