Autoblog is reporting a so called "Baby SLS" that removes the gullwing doors and is positioned above the SLK and below the SL.

It is apparently on sale in 2014.

I think it'd be cool if it was a more sporty machine that was a bit lighter, not GT-like like the SLK and SL.

But alas they're trying to squeeze something to fill a gap where there really is no gap. Unless they made it an entry level supercar type thing. That would be awesome.

500hp for $100,000 sounds like it, but then it'll weigh 3800-4200lbs and compete with a base Corvette more than anything.

I remember reading recently that it will be positioned a similar position above the SLK as the SLS AMG is to the SL.

But alas they're trying to ... fill a gap where there really is no gap.

That's not really anything new in the motor industry though, I'm pretty sure the Crossover segment is completely unnecessary (X6, Quashqai, Mini Crossman (coming soon, apparently). This is different though I guess, and I do think Mercedes have a gap to fill if the SLS is as good as it should be.

While I realise Mercedes Benz has never really tried to go after faster Ferraris or Lamborghinis or anything of the sort, they've been more about luxury, with any luck the SLS will change that and actually be good on the track. The way I see it, if it isn't it may as well just be another SL, and if it is, the baby SLS could be the Gallardo to the SLS's Murcielago.
