Okay, I did a search and found nothing. This is a real back-to-basics type question, as I go through my license cup trying to silver or gold them and - more generally - improve my driving style.

On the B License Basic Cornering 3, you use a Mazda MX-5 for taking a corner (right turn) on the Twin Ring Motegi. Despite following the braking line, and watching the ghost, I'm running 1.7 seconds OFF the silver time.

Sometimes I can take a test and feel like I can gold or silver it, but here I'm just not getting close. It seems a basic corner and it reoccurs in "Cornering 4" (which I also suck at), so I was wondering if anyone could spell out - maybe even draw a diagram - of how to take this corner.

Brake - don't accelerate into it - feather the accelerator to maintain a speed that is as fast as possible, then accelerate out ... yes? Somehow I'm really fluffing this one up and any advise on this basic cornering technique would be awesome.

Uh, this may be in the wrong forum, so can a mod delete (THIS) post (#2) and move the thread, puleaze?

If you need to move a thread that you started, you can do it by going to the admin tools option at the bottom of the page and select Move/Copy thread.

I think I have a gold replay at home for this one. I will have a look and try to describe it. I struggled to start with but then out of the blue came the gold time.

I would say try something radically different.

From memory I went very wide left and almost went past the corner under brakes. Then turned feathering the accelerator until I felt I could floor it and not run wide. Came up slashing the gold time.

Most other tests I am struggling with silver at the moment.

You need to brake only once not twice. I can remember that was an initial problem of mine. Also remember the track is wider than it looks.

cant remember what i did but i got silver there on 5th try. Its a hard one. I think I started the said corner wide and cut in... but I cant remember

you should probably watch the demo replay and pay close attention to the differences in his run and yours such as
-if he brakes earlier or later than you,
-how far into the turn he continues to brake
-when he begins to apply accelerator
-if he takes a different line than you

i found that compared with how i drove in gt3, to get gold in gt4 i often had to brake late and continue braking as i began the turn, whereas in gt3 i would brake early and begin applying throttle at the beginning of the turn

since its only B license remember to turn on the racing line using R3
very simple test
just remember to balance out your lien with speed
id say you either need to study the video alot more to find either:
A) where you can gas it properly
or
B) if you are taking the right line
although the demonstrations look fast, they arent perfect, they always hold bakc when braking, so there might be atip for you :D

Yeah, you can definately pick up time by braking later and deeper into the corner then letting off completely to get the car in the right direction and floor it.

Start out as wide as you can get, trail brake to the apex, feather then floor X, clip the rumble strip on the way out.

Have a gold medal on that one. But the thing I do if I can't get the gold medal (because I'm going for all golds now) is to set a fast time first, and then see the Demonstration of the test, to see where I lose my time. That's easily done, because with the demonstration, you see your ghost with it, so it's very easy to see where you lose time and where you can improve your time.:)

This was my first Gold test and I got the silver the first time I did the test... Reason I pushed to get the gold was that the silver time and gold time were so close together...

I don't remember it being amazingly special to get... just follow the line it gives you but make sure when you come out of the corner you don't have to ease off anywhere because otherwise you will lose lots of time.

"although the demonstrations look fast, they arent perfect"

Does this mean that the demonstrations given before the license tests aren't the fastest possible times?

Exactly ;)

Usually they aren't even close to the maximum potential. The other day I ran IA-15 (Pace lap on Nurburgring), which has a gold time of 9:02.600 on the US version. I managed to get a 8:39.043. The demo is just the best the guy that recorded it could do.:)

That's 9m00.000s in the PAL version. Guess the the licence test times are different again in the PAL and NTSC versions.

But from the guided laps you can't see the time of the demonstration, but with much of the tests I've got the gold medal, I'm faster than the demonstration run.:)

If the Demo runs were perfect... nobody would be able to get gold licences.

Best thing to do is watch the demo replay, with brake, accelerator, steering, gear display, and use cockpit view. Study it!
