Is anyone else PO'ed by the fact that it's barely halfway through July, but there are ALREADY back to school commercials? I do know that some places in the US go back in August, but in Ontario, people generally go back after Labour Day. Hell, this year i'm not back until Sept. 9th. From mid August-mid September, I don't care about the commercials, but MIDWAY THROUGH JULY! I mean, I was just starting to get used to this, then Wal-Mart has to burst my bubble.

Wait until college. If things keep up the way they are, you'll be lucky to have a summer vacation at all (unless you just want to be a slacker, of course).

It's insane how short it's become, one school in Barrow County is going back the last week of July after getting on break in mid-June :s

From,
Chris.

Since I'm old and done school and have to pay taxes to pay for public education, I say good! I'm sick of teachers having huge summer breaks while I have to sweat my butt off in the summer heat in order for them to have a paid vacation that puts everyone else to shame. Don't give me the "teaching is hard, they deserve it" bull crap either, there are plenty of other careers out there that are more challenging and stressful, and if they don't like the work, there are other careers out there for them to choose.

Some schools are year-round, and one of the local elementary schools has already been back for a week.

Wow here in Michigan it's a law that no school can start until after Labour Day.

What? My breaks while in college were really long. I was done the first week of May with exams and didn't have to go back until after Labour Day. Even with taking summer classes I was done by mid-June. Not to mention we got almost three weeks off around Xmas and an additional week off in Feb for spring break.

It's just in your head that it is starting earlyer every year. Companies have alwyas started back to school after the 4th. After that it is Halloween> Christmas/New Years> Valentine's Day> Easter> Summer> 4th and it goes on and on.

Good 'ol Australia is different. We have Summer> Back to School > St. Valentines > Easter> Winter > Spring > Summer > Christmas > More Summer > New Year > Summer again.

Well, let's see, first of all I did say summer. Second, here at USC, spring semester is over the second week of May, then there's Maymester, then Summer I in June and Summer II in July, and fall starts the third week of August. Maymester is admittedly mostly for quick courses abroad, but I've got friends that have had to take classes for both summer sessions since they couldn't find work. If I hadn't been duped into thinking I had a job by a certain company, I'd have done the same thing; instead, I'm just here for Summer II.

With taking summer classes I still had off between the middle of June and the first week of September. That's a pretty extensive summer vacation.

Very much agreed. I think the idea of a long summer vacation is unrealistic. All these kids get used to it in school and then get out into the working world and have a culture shock when they're working instead of sitting on their asses playing Halo. I've been working since I was 15 so It's been quite a while before I've had a summer vacation.

My college breaks are long. For winter I had a month from December to January 2. Spring was two weeks in beginning April. And my summer is from end April to August 26. So I have a lot of free time to work, volunteer, gaming, etc.

For me......

Shool starts: August 20-25th .......November: 3 days off plus weekend on Thanksgiving.......December: 2 Weeks off from Dec. 20 to Jan. 5........Then one week off somewhere around May 20th-1st of April. Summer Starts June 1st-5th....then again back to August 20-25th is where it starts all over Again.

Bart: "Awww, I'm gonna miss the whole summer!"
Homer: "Don't worry, boy. When you get a job like me, you'll miss every summer!"

Good line!

Over in the UK with the standard six weeks holiday, i noticed the other day the ads in the shop windows. The kids have hardly broken up and now they're being forcefed their impending return. It was always the most tragic thing to see as you enjoyed the summer.

Now a bit older (''wiser'') I should be missing every summer, but not just yet. Yet when you see some of the kids today and what they get up to around the areas, you just can't help but think 'Get Back to School'.

It's seem I'm getting older and more miserable.

And at 22!?

Blimey, the ravages of age!!

I go back to school in the fall, Ive been out of school for 2 years now, i honestly can not wait to go back. i get to start kick ass classes (towards a lucrative career in Auto Body repair!) and it means i get financial aid from good 'ol Uncle Sam, to help pay rent/school!

Buddy, I have a job too, (I work 30+ hours a week) That's almost a full time job. (I'm 14)
