ehhh i dont like backfire! its non realistic! turn me off.

and i like to more smokes when spinning the wheels or driftin..... i like when smokes will gone in 7sec or longer. it will be awesome.

if you dont understand ehhh :dunce: ! sorry :ouch: :ouch:

i want them to include smoke into the rear view mirror view when youre using bonnet cam or wahtever, and yeah the rendered back fires are abit unrealistic

? Woah

Have you guys ever seen a race in real life?...

The race cars often backfire.

I totaly agree though about the smoke, we want real thick smoke.

Yeah, I want to have to slow down because the smoke from a skid by a car in front of me is so ginormous, a la NASCAR.

The backfire is fine... real racing cars do it, I don't see any reason why GT wouldn't.

As for the smoke... yes, I agree. Tire smoke in games has never really been up to par. You get a little wheezing off the tire, and then it's gone. I've seen plenty of NASCAR wrecks on the tele, and I've seen plenty of drag races live.. whole LOT of smoke, and it lingers.

However, we know that the PS3 is capable of real-time volumetric smoke (aka "real" smoke and not that cheap sprite stuff they've been doing since PS1)... So it's possible for GT5 to have real tire smoke. Whether they actually do it or not is yet to be seen.

Div is back

Yes RACE CARS back fire, on GT4 ALL the cars back fire. Even completely standard ones. That is not realistic

That's not true. In order to backfire at all, you have to install a racing exhuast. And even then, backfires are rare. the more parts you add after the exhaust to boost power, the backfire you get. You can't just take a Golf out onto the track and see it backfire.

yeah...

Only high powered cars will backfire standard in GT4, for the rest some form of tuning is needed, not neccessarily a racing exhaust though as my sports exhaust wearing cars will backfire quite happily too.

I really don't know just how powerful the PS3 will be but i'm sure PD wil squeeze as much they can from it, however i don't think smoke is a priority for them so i don't expect alot morein comparison to the other visual aspects.

However i think it will be at least two years till we see the first screens of the game and even longer till we get it. Only time will tell.

Heres to the wait and hoping

Game. Set. Match.

Wrong wrong wrong. All you got to do is retard the ignition enough it light up the unburnt fuel. Racing cars are really retarded :) . And on rally cars which use turbos, theres an antilag system(also known as bangbang system. It removes turbolag, it is not widely used in track cars, only in rally machines.

race cars backfire. stock Seat Ibiza cupras do not backfire as in GT4.

Actually, stock Seat Ibiza Cupra's DO backfre as do many other hot hatches, if you do the right things, I've been next to one when it has. It doesn't take much to get most cars to backfire.

How about some actual tire marks left on the road when you slide, spin out, or just leave the line. In ALL the GT games, it's never been possible. I want to spin out through all the gears and leave some freakin black marks you know?

I don't think smoke is impossible on the PS2. In the newer NASCAR games, you can do burnouts, and slides, that create a nice, thick smoke.

the backfiring is realistic. however, the actual art of the backfire itself is kinda meh.

ps3 should be able to model smoke and diffusion of smoke particles. i guess it would be similar to how the leaf demo worked with the wind vortexes. a burnout or dirt-run should leave a haze over the area after the initial mass dissipates. then, the haze or initial cloud could be further dispersed by the wind given off by the cars, or weather conditions or etc. until it's not noticed anymore.

that's what i want, anyway.

Yikes, we're talking serious particle physics modelling here...

Im sure PD could have very crude representations of these effects that should look pretty cool though... Volumetric lighting of the volumetric smoke (Counter Strike Source anyone?) would look awesome too...

Say some pillock spins off two cars in front of you and as the car in front passes through the smoke his brake lights and "backfiring" illuminates the smoke accurately...

Maybe it'll be too much depending on PD's plans for damage etc...

Is it that easy to backfire though? Just put the car in 5th or 6th gear and it'll start to backfire.

As for backfiring.... I could do without it. It's kinda stupid when i'm driving a BMW 5 series and all of the sudden, ..BAM.. when you downshift. If I paid $60,000 for a car and it backfired like that, I go nuts at the dealer and say I got a lemon. Backfiring on "stock" cars is totally unrealistic.

TIRE SMOKE
This is a big thing. Sitting there doing a donut. Smoke is gone in about oh, say half a second. Thats not right. lol! And I love how you go through grass and you have fluffy smoke coming out. Ok fine, fluffy after a couple seconds, but at first have it look like dirt and grass chunks are flippin' out from under your tires. I guarantee when you punch it, fluffy smoke is not gonna be flying at 3 MPH.
