backup gt 6 before updating?

Well I haven't had internet for a year or actually since the red bull cars and I plan on reconnecting soon.
I've only recently completed everything except the kart races.
So when I reconnect to the internet and begin updating are there any precautions I should take so I won't lose my progress?

No. At present I'm not aware of any reports of any kind about users losing data after a GT6 game update*.

However, backing up your game save file regularly is a very wise precaution to take anyway and doing so before an update seems completely sensible to me.


*The exception being that v1.00 won't read save files from newer than v1.02, so downdating and then updating may result in a broken file
 
I used to do it all the time, prior any known update...

... and then i got lazy.

But save yourself a backup, it's quick and easy...
 
I always do a back-up BEFORE buying a new car. That way, if I don't like it, I simply revert back to the saved data and get all the credits back. Is this cheating?

Load the game first so that you get your log-in bonus, then quit.
Back-up the data to a USB stick.
Re-load GT6, buy the car and try it out for a few races.
If it's not what I want, quit the game again, up-load the saved data from the USB stick and re-load GT6 again.

This works a charm. I use this to test Rigidity, try wild setups, & if I want reset a car's mileage after a long marathon/endurance session. (Beats an oil change which only lasts ~ 300Km)
