Backup software

I'd like to backup the stuff on my computer, and I was wondering what kind of suggestions you guys have as to how I should go about it. I've got a laptop with a single 60 gb hd and a 40 gb external. I dont really know if I want to backup the entire hd or just a bunch of files that I'd need. Really, all I'm looking for is something easy and hassle-free. Anyone have any software recommendations? Free is good

If you're not looking for a "boot of a CD complete system restore kinda thing", the build in back up program in W2K / XP will work just fine. Either you backup to a tape or an external disk...
