Because it says memory card utility on the XMB Menu does that mean I have a reverse-compatible PS3 So I can play older GT games?
(P.S.sorry for this being in the wrong thread but it took ages to write this and I dont have right click just click and I saw it being in the GT5 Q&A)

That depends on your PS3 model. It can play GT1 and GT2 regardless, but only the earliest models would be able to play GT3 and GT4 (and only the earliest of early models would be able to play GT4 without massive glitches).

Mostly what he said. The old 60gb phatty is the only reliable ps2 compatible machine, and it may be the only backwards compatible period. Were any of the 2nd gen fully backwards compatible for ps2? but just about any ps3 will play a ps1 game, weird huh?

anyway, what i was intending to post was what those memory card utilities are for, and that's all the old PS1 and PS2 classics that you can d/l from psn. You have to set up a virtual ps1 or ps2 memory card for any of those downloads, they're all verrrry lazy direct ports. analog sticks don't even work for games that were released prior to the original ps1 2 stick controller.

As a general rule, if it has 4 USB ports, then it is backwards compatible regardless of model. When they took out BC with the 40GB model, they reduced the number of USB ports to 2, and for all models after that.
