Ya, I just watched the aftermath and came to the conclusion that the marshalls are even bigger idiots. Right after they got him out of the Ferrari they just left him on the ground to deal with himself while they spent more time on the Ferrari then the driver, I find it truley sad to see the way the driver reacted right after they got him out, his body movements were just sickening, and the way he was still smoldering.....I really wish the driver the best of luck. Also I noticed that the driver of the porsche was rushed a stretcher, I mean he does have a broken leg, but wouldn't the marshalls think that a driver stuck in a buring car for more than 90 seconds need the stretcher most?

Anyways, there was a rumor that this one driver was racing, and somehow died by coming off the track and not being able to turn correctly. But he didn't hit it head on. It said the carwas going off the track, hit the wall, and the rest I'll have to try and get.

That was Senna in... starts with an M I think. I'll say Spain anyways. No it was Spain. 1992. Bad wreck, his steering went out at about 150mph I think and he slammed into the wall. The impact didn't kill him, a sharp object came through his visor and made him bleed to death.

It was Imola in 94.

Its crazy how some crashes look fatal, but turn out not to be that....and other crashes look minimal...but turn out to be fatal???

again some..not all.

example:

This accident (Stan Fox - INDY 500 - 1995) looks horrifying..but he survived....yet others (I dont know where at) look not as bad..but were fatal.

Sorry to get out of subject though, just wanted to share my opinion. Because looking at the first video when I didnt know the result..I thought I was looking at the death of a driver, and well It just had me thinking after I saw the aftermath video....were they show him alive.

Also I'd bet the ferrari hit the Porsche and the fuel lines broke, and the slight rubbing between the cars on impact was enough to create a small spark to set the car ablaze.

Im pretty sure the gas tanks of most racecars of JGTC, NASCAR, or F1 are made of pierce-resistent high rade rubber to prevent that type of thing, along with plastic hoses. The reason that passenger cars use metal ones, sometimes rubber/plastic composite, is for strength, but in racing the types of rubber and plastic they use can be as much as 300x stronger than steel pound-for-pound.

Also, has anyone heard of Helmut Koinigg's crash at Watkins Glen? I mean its the first time I've heard of a decapitation in a car race. If anyone wants to see aftermath pictures of the accident I warn you they're really gruesome. The cause of the decapitation was he smashed head on into steal barriers that were poorly built turning them into razor blades.

and bullet proof vests cant stop sharp objects form peircing them so if thats true a sharp peice of metal could have periced the tank and made a spark.

its a real good thing he had his helmet on still...that fall could've meant mondo concussion.
the track guy was just shoving him along...wtf...they had a stretcher RIGHT there, and i would've at least had the decency to carry him otherwise.

Sorry dude, I Googled for it and assumed what I found was correct.

And also, I told ya about something going into his visor. I didn't know the details of what happened, but you can assume if a sharp metal object goes through your head there was blood involved. I heard from someone who saw it live on TV that there was blood seeping from the car like oil...

I also corrected all those facts that I said in the beginning, when I was guessing, from what I found on Google. I forgot to take the wrong ones out... but I still was correct.

BTW it was known his steering failed, there are pictures of his broken steering column afterwards, they had a whole trial about it because it was thought it was an intentional sabotage by someone on the team.

wow, not heard of that, but it sounds intense. do u have the video or pictures?

and i find it interesting that some guys don't know who nikki lauda is, but then i didnt at one point so its all good but its because of him that drivers started wearing fireproof suits right? at least those facial things that go under the helmets. he was burned much worse than this ferrari guy because he didnt have that protection. yet i'm sure both these drivers are more than thankful to get away with their lives...

i dont think anyone goes into this sport weighing up the chances of dying versus the thrill of winning. racing is something you feel in your heart, driving a car at full throttle is something that gives a racing driver a thrill like nothing else and no matter what the death rate was, i dont think any one of them would stop racing.

i saw this show once that showed indy tracks back in the 60's or 70's or something... (in car view). and they literally had cars wiggling in between trees and stuff. it looked hellacool but i guess it was very dangerous. in the 30's the drivers didnt even have seatbelts did they?!

but yeah that tank exploding is insane. im guessing it must have pierced a fuelhose or an engine compartment that had something flammable in it. probably a billion to one chance, but it happened. bullet proof vests can't stop all bullets, and im guessing they can't stop a 993's chassis at 150mph either

No, it was not a good thing he still had the helmet on. You see the visor collapsed inside the helmet and onto his face. I saw a picture of the helmet and it must have been so painful. The way the marshalls treated Ota was worse then Williamsons accident, in that they just left Ota squirming on the ground. Bastards, I would have at least got a stretcher and laid him down on it, Christ.
