Bad News Guys. No GT6.!!!

During my morning tea break I was browsing through the tech section of my local daily news paper and found this -
(Those who are easily upset, look away now!)

“The recent decision to suspend Polyphony Digital’s production operation has come, in part, from Sony Inc’s CEO Howard Stringer. Stringer’s reasons for the move, which will bring an end to Polyphony Digital’s main line of entertainment ‘Gran Turismo’, was put down to corporate restructuring in an effort to focus development on future (consoles) rather than game production. It is unclear at this time whether Polyphony Digital will resume their work on the next title in the series. Head of the sub-company Kazunori Yamuachi has yet to comment on the current situation.”

Looks like it's game over for PD. Looks like GT5 is the last of its kind.

Seriously, GT is Sony's best selling console exclusive title EVER. You REALLY think they'd cancel the production of another one? Do ya really? Also, it says "PD's production operation..." PD's not a producer, they're a developer. They don't produce GT, Sony does.

Not just console exclusive, their best selling game on the PS3 fullstop.

Not surprising though considering that:

GT1 & 2 - 1st and 3rd best selling PS1 games (split by FFVII)
GT3 & 4 - 2nd and 3rd best selling PS2 games (only beaten by GTA San Andreas)
GT5 & GT5P - 1st and 2nd best selling PS3 games

Yeah, with that kinds of success, Sony would be INSANE to discontinue the GT franchise.

April Fools or not, this actually wouldn't suprise me much. Look how long it took for GT5 to come out. I'd bet Sony will have a PS4 out before the next GT game is released. I'm thinking around 2015.
