Independence Day for me was digging into some great barbeque from my dad. So with this topic,

I want to discuss barbeque and grilling. I'll start.

First off, all the commercials I see about Johnsonville Bratwurst, they say "welcome to Heaven on a bun." My response- damn! That makes for some good BBQ. Those commercials also say that slow cooking is the secret to great taste. Maybe that's what my old man did to cook the brats (pronounced "brahts") so wonderfully. I also like good ribs. Once, I had as many as five in a day.

And of course, my teeth "paid for it" by still feeling the feeling of biting through rib after rib.

Summer grilling is the name of the game for those weekends, seem like. It's also a hot favorite at the race track. So let's talk about barbeque and grilling, folks! By the way, Happy 228th Birthday, America!

We made some great ribs the other night. No regular tomato-based sauce, just a lot of spices in a dry rub with lime juice and crushed chiles. Tonight I grilled up some chicken skewers with balsamic vinegar, brown sugar, garlic, onion, green pepper, and some other stuff in the marinade. Tasty.

Braaied chicken and a good piece of steak do me just fine. Man, just thinking about is makes my mouth water. I just hate cleaning the Weber grill when all is said and done.

You're only supposed to clean the grill once a year, and that's when you pull it out in spring.. The leftovers helps preserve the grill during storage :)

After we got a new BBQ, we grill every friggin' thing. The bread, the meat (be it chicken, lamb, cow, whatever), the vegetables... It just tastes better...

And the best heater I've found so far are "Heat Beads". It says on the bag that it's Australias favorite BBQ heater - Don't know about that, but I do know that they'll keep the BBQ hot for app. 4 hours - NICE 👍

I made a dry rub out of salt, pepper, paprika, cilantro, sage, cayenne pepper, garlic salt. Then i got a slab of ribs and put it all over it. Then I smoked it for a couple hours.

Grilling - To cook quickly with high heat.

BBQ - To cook slowly with low heat.

I usually grill up some Papa Cantella's all beef, natural casing hot dogs, and some ground sirloin burgers. But, not this year. This year, we went to my mom's house, where she did all the cooking and grilling. It sucked. I filled up on Krispy Kremes we brought us.

She's old, and very crotchity, so there is no use arguing with her. She did it all by herself, and was pissed off that no one was eating. We left not saying good-bye. So, we could have had a better time.

Aww, sorry Solid. It's okay. There's still plenty of summer to be had for grilling.

I sure got a kick out of those Johnsonville Bratwursts. So when I see those commercials on Speed Channel or during NASCAR races, they are about as good as delicious ribs. So I would recommend getting some and slow cooking the brats, just like in the commercials. Also in the commercials, "if you don't turn 'em, you burn 'em."

And when my parents don't grill, we normally go to a restaurant chain here in Houston called "Gabby's." They have some good ribs. Either them or Pappa's. Any more talk about BBQ and/or grilling? Got a nice discussion going here.

You say 'Bratwurst' over there in the US? OMG... And I thought the Germans are using many anglicisms. But vice-versa it is even more, I think.*lol*

Well, my terminology is different. Anyhow, those "Brats" make for some good eating if you ask me. Just remember to slow cook. I'm pretty sure NASCAR fans will do that at Chicagoland this Sunday, then the ALMS will at Sears Point. So... pick a race.

Dorfito, let me ask you about your most recent post. Beer with bratwurst? I know I've had bourbon chicken (and it's tasty, of course, you'd have to cook the bourbon so that the alcohol isn't there). So, when it comes to making bratwurst with beer, does it make it taste better when cooked, or what?

If you have a Silver Spring Mining Company restaurant near you, I suggest that you try their ribs. They're really delicious.

So beer for bratwurst are a seasoning like the bourbon chicken I've had before? I mean, I know you can cook the bourbon to get the alcohol off of. But when you pour it on some pieces of chicken, it's very tangy and sweet.

Beer brats are probably the same thing, in terms of seasoning, right? Interesting.

man, i really miss barbequeing. but traditions are very quickly fading away here in texas.. mostly because people are getting supre freakin lazy and stuff.

Fading in Texas? Big trucks with heavy HPs for tow and go... STILL a tradition in Texas. In fact, what about all the Texas-edition trucks we get here?

There's still plenty of tradition. Having good ribs and BBQ and stuff are still great here in Texas. So, my fellow Houstonian, find a grill, wait for a good weekend, and fry some stuff up. Alright? So go have some fun, Yoshi.

about the trucks... god, i wish that was one tradition that would leave tx. i HATE big trucks and people that drive fast with them. and their freakin grill guards 4x4 dual exauhst v10's that go with them... GRRR!!! they think they own the road, in a city filled with road rage, they would eliminate 90% of it, if we didnt have trucks.
