Battery on CR-X?

I was doing the CR-X seasonal event when I noticed there was a red/white bar moving next to a battery above the fuel indicator. When the battery had only one bar oout of five left, the bar dissapeared. I suppose the CR-X is, like the Tesla, an electric powered car, but I don't know what does that bar do. Can anyone explain that to me?
 
it shows rechange an drain on the battary
red = draining
white = charging
 
It's not electric, it's hybrid, like the Prius, braking charges the battery.
 
First of all, its called the CR-Z (the CR-X was the old one mind you :p)
And as G.T.Ace has pointed out, its a hybrid. Meaning the car has both an electric motor as well as a normal petrol engine. The battery indicator doesn't seem to do much other than tell how much the battery for the electric motor is until in needs recharge. You will also notice when the battery is fully drained the car would still be running using the normal engine, but I'm not sure if the electric motor actually increases the power when it was full or not... (haven't noticed it when I was doing that event)
 
When the electric motors where used in the first couple of laps in the Challenge my times where 4 sec faster than at the end with only the petrol engine
 
The electric motor in this car assists the petrol engine which is run though a 6 speed manual (in the GT5's version), don't forget it is a hybrid "sports car", IIRC it can add up to a max of 14 hp and it does make a difference even in GT5. I did time trials on Tsukuba and after 9 laps (runs out mid 8th lap) I couldn't keep up with my ghost at all anymore, he just had better corner exit torque.

Oh and the charge doesn't make a full lap of Nordschleife either, depending on how you drive but it generally runs out on the long straight near the end.
 
Also does the battery offset fuel consumption at all?

Thats right. I had caught the lead car by lap 4 and was only 4 secs behind but finished the race and was 8 secs behind.

And yeah, I noticed the loss of power when battery runs out. This is what, IMO, makes this event different: you have to overtake all the cars in 4 laps AND hold them off the last lap. 5th lap was nothing short of a nightmare to me, specially on the main straight to the finish line, but when I finally crossed it, I almost yelled of euphoria xD
 
if you just draft the car in 1st, would it save you any battery power?

No. If you still see the red arrow next to the battery, it is draining at its normal speed. Braking and letting off the throttle will recharge the battery. ;)
 
There is a car that shouldn´t have a battery indicator. The Blastoline Special(Tank Car).

Is it just me, or does the CR-Z seem to handle better when the battery runs out? It's like the battery's weight is magically removed from the car when it's empty!
