Bayerische Motoren-Werke. Bavarian Motor Works. BMW.

This is my BMW-only thread. This company based in Munich is known quite well in sporty sedans, luxurious executive models, nice compacts, sportscar racing, Formula One, and of course, they are the winning manufacturer of this year's 24 Hours at the Nurburgring. Not to mention the engine manufactuer for the awesome McLaren F1 supercar. But BMW doesn't want to do well with just cars. In fact, they have made motorcycles as well. For more info on BMW, I provide this introduction from Gran Turismo 2:

"Founded in 1922 the Bayerische Motoren-Werke was formally an aero engine manufacturer and today its blue and white propeller badge still celebrates that history. The firm started making Austin Sevens and has come a long way since and now owns Rover and Rolls-Royce."

or for you German folk with thanks to translations from (http://world.altavista.com) ;):

"Gegründet worden in 1922 war das Bayerische Motoren-Werke formal ein aero Maschine Hersteller und heute feiert sein blaues und weißes Propellerabzeichen noch diese Geschichte. Das feste begonnene bildende Austin Sevens und ist ein langer Weg seit dem gekommen und jetzt Vagabund und Rolls-Royce-Royce besitzt."

Any talk on BMW is welcome here. Reply now! Jedes mögliches Gespräch auf BMW ist hier willkommen. Antwort jetzt!

Where did you get that BMW owned Rover? BMW sold Rover years ago for whopping 50 quid. They still own a couple of names originating from BMC, but Rover and MG is not among them.

It's from the GT2 description. So this is outdated pretty much now. It's the only source I have. So it's nice to get some BMW talk here.

Great handling, great engines, pretty good motor racing history, well screwed together (apart from the US made models) but increasingly ugly - damn that Chris Bangle!!!

BMW makes the M3 and the M5. The pinnacles of performance oriented luxury sedans (or coupes in the M3's case).

And if you can afford one, BMW makes great convertibles.
