I give you a review of "Beats of Revolution." Before we begin, if I post something that's foul or against the rules, I sincerely apologize. Read on.
INTRO: The game "Beats of Rage" is a freeware game created by Senile Team. What exactly is it, then? Well, it is an old-school fighting game in the mold of Final Fight, but especially the hit Genesis trilogy, Streets of Rage. This game pays more homage to Streets of Rage than any other beat-em-up. The inspiration behind this game has come from Sega's "Streets of Rage" series and SNK Playmore's "King of Fighters" series. Senile Team took a stand and tried to create their own freeware game for beat-em-up fans to enjoy old-school, 2D fighting goodness. They basically said, "well, since Sega couldn't make a 'Streets of Rage 4,' we figured we'd do the job." And in so, this game was born.
In terms of storylines, Mr. Y, took control of the city, corrupted the police, and now has three young people want to take back the city. Their first names are Kula, Max, and Mandy. Kula seems more like an android than a human with some of her movements, but is easily the best character in the game. Mandy is pretty built for a lady. Her moves are rather weak compared to Kula. Max is the slowest character. Assuming you've played such games before, you know what that means. Right! While slow, such a character has the strongest attacks. He has an advantage over the ladies, though. He has more health than both Kula and Mandy.
PROS: has the "Streets of Rage" environment and gameplay almost perfect; beautiful graphics; great music; can be modded to come up with all sorts of different games using the BOR game engine; challenging fights
CONS: some tough levels with tougher enemies; (maybe) the fact that some or most of the material is actually from other games, some may argue that this is completely authentic
FINAL VERDICT:If you ever wanted to play a Streets of Rage game but never did, enjoy this glorious tribute to the classic Streets of Rage and King of Fighters series. (Score: 8.75/10.00)
