The track is one of, if not the most picturesque locations in all of motor sports. Belle Isle is an island in the middle of the Detroit River that is as close to Canada as it is to the U.S. It is also the only street circuit in the United States with grass around it, not just run off and concrete barriers, and features a sections driving around a large fountain. In the backdrop of the racing action, the Ambassador Bridge (linking the United States and Canada), the iconic Renaissance Center (world-headquarters of General Motors), and freighters can be seen passing on the river through out the day. The track was reconfigured for 2013 and successfully created more passing opportunities and drastically improved the racing quality. The track currently hosts races for a number of series, highlighted by IndyCar and TUSCC (the Grand-Am ALMS unified series).
