Hello all. New starter here but rest assured that Im not exploiting your wisdom casually and hope to become a worthwhile member someday.
So it begins. Last night I was engaged in a rather prolonged session in seasonal events, cleaning up in every race with stock cars. I was at it for about 6 hours, perusing the UCD for choice cars in between. I then went on to Grand Tour as have golded all bar one but it froze on loading screen after route map. Not the first time! Glanced at the time and realised I was still in Ashes mode and it was definitely time for bed so just turned it off. Slept well in fact. Perhaps a little too well
I got back this evening to play again (I Love it) but no disc appeared in XMB. Weird. I tried to eject but nothing came out. I rebooted but still no sign of it. I then checked everywhere just in case it mysteriously popped out and made its way into a blu ray/game box. Nope - insane move I know and I can confirm that GT Life doesnt have that much life. So googled bastard ps3 swallowed disc and as Im sure youre all already aware this isnt unheard of. Found the manual eject fix but Im by no means tech savvy so decided to call PSUK. They quickly took me through the steps: turning console over, removing black tab, unscrewing blue screw anti-clockwise. I had to find a screwdriver but the lad informed me this was very simple & sure to work. Before he left me to it though he asked how long I had been playing the game. I revealed but he merely acknowledged answer with an understanding grunt and that was that. Now I know endurance races last a lot longer than 6 hours so could this in any way be responsible? Or just standard interrogation?
It didnt work. I called back and inevitably spoke to someone else. Tried process again but to no avail. I was then informed that I was two months out of warranty but not sh** out of luck as they were willing to give me an extension. A refurb will be arriving on Friday to replace existing system. BUT she told me that while I of course can back up save data and transfer to the new one I will need to deactivate PSN account. I immediately backed up GT5 data (it is pretty much the only thing that matters to me) on several external drives though after a bit of searching I discovered that GT5 save data is intrinsically linked to PSN user acc. Rightly so too imo as it protects the game a little at least from unprotected one night stands.
So after all that my questions are: will I terminate my GT5 life if I deactivate PSN account? Do I have to deactivate PSN account? Are there any steps to take to ensure save game has transferred correctly (i.e hook up to PC and create PS3 friendly folders)? When I get new model is there anything specific I need to do to ensure safe transfer (they dont allow HDD switch btw)? Does anyone have any brainwaves for getting the disc out as still have 24 hours?
I am actually really happy with how PSUK have handled this but if I lose GT5 save game I will lose it. For real. Ive got in too many arguments with my lady friend, lost too many hours of sleep, and shared too much for it to be over. Please excuse rambling first post, have turned to the bottle, but I would be truly grateful for some laymen termed advice on this.
