Benchmark lap times?

Hi everyone, I'm just getting into tuning for GT6, and I was wondering what were some good benchmark lap times to aim for when tuning? I mainly tune at 400 and 450PP, but any other levels are also good, and the main tracks I like to tune at are Suzuka, Tsukuba and Nurb GP-F. Also, I prefer to tune for online. Thanks in advance for any help!
 
There's a big difference between the fastest and average drivers so you might be better setting your own benchmark times.

I'd be inclined to use a Miata at 400pp and S2000 at 450pp as they are easy to drive consistently to give a reliable time. If you want an idea of how good your set up is, test it against cars in the tuner garages.
 
Setting your own personal benchmarks for each class would be best I'd say. After testing a few cars at 450pp on a track(with the same tyres) you should get an idea about what your best times and cars are, that'll then give you something to aim for. My top car for 450pp is the Ferrari Dino and I use that as my benchmark for that class, I feel if I can get a car near my times for the Dino then it's a good tune/car. Although to be honest I'm a bit of noob when it comes to tuning!
 
Look through fitt challenge lap times and note the track and PP/power:weight ratio. Seasonals as well. Look for the top time with whatever car you like and there is your benchmark. When I start with a new series or car, I'll go online, note the best time for x PP or x racing series (gt2/300/500/97T, etc.) at said track and set my own benchmark as to be one second faster. I play with aliens, so it doesn't always work out, but I always have something higher and higher to shoot for. Between improving my own driving to my setups. My problem is not my setups. They always come out great and help set great times. But, I need to be more consistent with my entries. That is my problem right now.

But, as I said...set the benchmark as a second faster in your head and chase that number. You may not reach it, but you'll end up with a much better car, than if you tune it to your liking. That is what I did in the past. I would end up with a very stabled car, that was incredibly balanced, but not fast enough to compete in the leaderboards. I stopped doing that and began chasing top leaderboard times...all my cars that I use regularly picked up seconds. Example - the current 600pp road car seasonal. I don't like the NSX that everyone is using and I hate the ZZII. Both dominate the leaderboard in this time trial. I used it as an opportunity to squeeze more time out of my MP4-12C. Got it down into the high 1:03s. A good four second per lap improvement over my old tune. Pretty sure it is one of, if not the fastest MP4-12C on the leaderboard, but I could be wrong of course.

So...yes, shoot for said benchmarks as I mentioned. Don't tune to into your comfort zone. Tune as close to bench mark as possible, THEN make it more drive able without losing time or very, very little. A few tenths at most.

Same thing happened to me with the GT500 seasonal. I have no experience with those cars. Tried last week and did horrible. 1:20.xxx I believe with a supra gt500 '08(?). Sat down yesterday for an hour and got it down to high 1:16s and there is so much left to pull out of the car, but I don't have the energy for time trials sometimes. I want to do so well, that I exhaust myself by obsessing over it. Either way though...it has been made clear to me that chasing benchmarks is the best way. I think eclipsee has some really good 400-500pp tunes. He always does well in that category, amongst others, but I see him win those often IIRC. Probably worth checking those tunes out to get an idea of what they look like. Any tune to be honest. You have to figure out which sort of tunes feel best for you, though. I like a very loose rear end and use toe settings that not many like, but they make the car faster lol...so no choice. But, you also become a far better driver when you start getting out of your comfort zone and are driving cars that are setup to be rockets, but loose as hell. Your car control becomes so much better.

Funny you ask, right now I'm going through a list of 180+ time trials from GT5 and GT6, looking for the gold medal standard times. Here's a sample so far. Note , where a gold time is not available I have arbitrarily used the 75th percentile time (or the top 25% of all TT entrants) those are shown as "est" (estimated) on the list below.
