Benefit of playing GT5?

Whilst idly wandering round the John Lewis store here in Edinburgh a couple of weeks ago I happen upon a young man from Sony who asks if I want to try his competition.

I immediately notice it's GT5 on the tv and sure enough he confirms this and says it's a fastest lap test. I see it's round the London track in the Aston DB9.

I take him up on this and ask what the settings are. He's no idea and I assume they were the default tyres and TC.

So one lap to warm up and one hot lap later and I cross the line in 1:01.9, about a second faster than the previous fastest.

Said nice young man takes my e-mail address and says he'll be in touch if I win.

I don't expect to win but it turns out....

I'm now the proud owner of some lovely James Bond blu-rays. :)

So it turns out there is a benefit in years of GT gaming. And I'm not that fast by any means so I am doubly pleased.

Way back when I worked for GameStop I went to their managers convention in Texas. Sony had a time trial competition using GT4 and the winner got a Silver PS2.

I won. :D
 
Something similar happened to me at beaulieu motor museum back in 2006. They had a booth there with a time trial in GT4 Prologue, any car from arcade mode on New York I think, fastest lap of the day won the game. Naturally I won of course :cool:, only to find out that there were just 2 other names on the list & they were both young boys who had no idea how to play! :lol:

If not your gold times, maybe your world wide overall rank :lol:. That'll turn some heads.

I didn't see anyone else having a go, so I don't know how old they were. I suspect much younger than me though!

Guys in the shop seemed easily impressed though, someone in shop did beat my time, but couldn't enter as they worked there.

I did something similiar on my schooltrip to Berlin at the BMW with GT5P but the driving position was just horrible so no good times for me haha ;)

Heh, I'm not sure if there's a US equivalent to this, but I took part in the very first year's, it was called CampusCup back then.

One year of university paid for, and one giant novelty cheque to spark the story whenever anybody visits my place :lol:.

i was at the playstation access in glasgow last year and i took part in the gt5 competition.ended up i can 1st place and won a gt5 jumper.thing was size xl and im a medium

I had a similar experience at the Champ Car race in Las Vegas 2007, except all I got was a PS3 t-shirt :lol:

In washington there's this car museum, and they had like the 17,000 dollar racing simulators that move and everything hooked up to iRacing. I beat the fastest time by 3 seconds :). I didn't win anything, but I got to rub it in my brothers face :p
 
iaian - Congrats man - good job. Always a smile to hear a good story like that. :) And since my Dad's name (he had a Scottish name - 3 letters) which is hidden in your userID :lol: I got a bigger kick out of it.
The salesguy who beat your time must have been playing it a lot.

Aston DB9 in 1:09 around London. Hmmmm. What would Bond do.. . .
