bent pins on cpu

Hey my bud just got the 3.06 ghz and he was about to put it in the socket and it would not go down. So he looked and on the left side of the cpu there were like 5 pins bent. I would like to know if u could bend them back very carefuly so it will go in.:confused:
 
You could try, but there's no guarantee they won't snap off.

If the CPU was purchased legitimately, I foresee a house-insurance claim.

That's the main thing: NEVER get hardware that isn't legit! They only bring troubles!

Yes, you can try (no guarantees). I've done it myself, no problems.
 
I've bent pins back into place, just be careful and hope for the best.
