As in the title looked around google and every ones says kids films are the best to watch 3d toy storey , avatar etc but if you had to throw all your 3d DVDs away what one would you ?. Want to go out today and buy a few and am getting a surround sound what's the bestest film to sit their and think wow :o a know like army/helicopter are going to be my best bet but do you guys think ?

>Implying people have went and bought into 3D. xD

I sell 3D. In our experience the best ones are CGI and Avatar. CGI because the computer calculates it all for you, Avatar because the technology was made for that film. All other filmmakers are adapting their films to the tech, while Cameron adapted the tech to his film.

Games, in my experience, show surround so much better. Get a good FPS, walk into the crossfire of a big firefight, enjoy.

Of course, you'll need a good speaker setup to enjoy it fully.

Do you think the surround sound system will sound better then my astro a40s ?

Yeah. I'd say a competent 5.1 system would floor then. You get a significantly better separation between the channels. Depends how you have it wired up at the moment.

Of course, a good speaker surround setup'll cost you far more, so it depends on how much you wanna spend.

Oh that. Yeah, we had one of those at work...still do. Can't sell the bloody thing...

Believe it or not, that there's a better buy. Speakers are smaller, but boy is it gutsy for its size. Dixons appear to be fairly expensive for it, though.

Hmmm...here. My company deliver nationally like Dixons, and they're a wee bit cheaper:

Don't get me wrong, the LG's good value for the money, but that Pioneer can turn notes on a dime in comparison. We have a setup with a bunch of cinema systems. Samsung, Pioneer, Panasonic and that LG. The Pioneer wins every time, kinda annoying given it's also the cheapest, and we're trying to take people's money, here. xD

Wait 'til you hear the power from the sub on it, though. Trust me, it floors the LG in all departments.

The sub on the lg system ? Have got a lg tv and just thought a would be better getting a lg surround sound and when a seen this 3d can connect to the web etc a was sold maybe you can help me am looking for a splitter one to connect to the tv and one to connect to the ps3 then back into the surround sound but a can only find 1 in 2 out not the other way around ? :/

They're two-way, so you can do either. Have you only got one HDMI on the telly?

The Pioneer is 3D-ready, 5.1, more powerful, much clearer, all-round better. Also cheaper.

The LG only has very basic internet features. by it if you want, but I'll be honest, I definitely don't think it's worth that money. Brand doesn't matter between systems and TVs, it genuinely has no advantage at all.

Oh no, don't use one of those. They can give you issues with the signal.

Easiest way is HDMI from PS3 and Surround system to the TV, and an Optical between the TV and surround. Done and dusted.

Ohhh, I get what you mean now.

You can't wire two opticals into one port, you'll get interference from them both.

Check your HDMI fittings on the TV, one of them might have "ARC" above it. If that's the case, wire that to your surround on your TV, another HDMI port to the PS3, and optical from the PS3 to the surround sound.

I've moved this thread to a location that will get you a lot more feedback.

Personally I would always suggest looking at separate systems as well, rather than an 'all-in-the-box' package.

Separates may cost you slightly more initially, but are upgradable piece by piece and will (for a comparable price point) sound better than an 'all-in-the-box' package.

Something like this

http://www.richersounds.com/product/av-receivers/onkyo/txsr309/onky-txsr309-blk

and this

http://www.richersounds.com/product/speaker-packages/pioneer/shs100/pion-shs100

is around the £270 mark, but will provide a better upgrade route and a better sound as well.

If convenience is your main factor then the 'all-in-the-box' package is worth looking at, but at the very least consider separates.

The greater range of inputs on a seperate system will also allow you to run the video and audio from your PS3 via HDMI (which will still provide you with surround sound) and from the TV to the receiver via optical).

Scaff

I would second the Seperates route as always upgradable and soundwise will be that much better. As for the 3D stuff, I have a 3D TV but because I cant see 3D in any carnation I've never had the pleasure (and associated migrane) of it.

One great movie for showing off surround sound is master and commander. It's probably the best movie there is for testing a sub. The cannons are very loud and hit super hard and low, plus it's also really good for surround sound. The wood splintering sounds amazing, and the water splashing against the side of the boat is great. It really sound slike your out to sea.

i have watched fairly a lot of 3d movies at home.
Some are good some not.
Converted movies are crap.
The documentation from Imax and Nat. Geo are great.
Kid movies: Rainy with meatballs is good, aliens vs monters, dispiecable me has some good 3d effects.
Movies: Resident Evil had good effects, need to take a look at my library to name more good 3d movies.
Will update this when i get home

Although I don't think its that good a film Avatar seems to be the benchmark for the best 3D movie made so far from a technical standpoint. Go for ones which have actually been shot in 3D and not just converted.

Transformers Dark Of The Moon is considered a very good 3D movie, possibly the best since Avatar being shot with the fusion camera, it also has cracking sound (something Bay does quite well) so that might be a good choice.

*ibo* S3 Racer

Are you home yet

I don't know much about 3D,but for sheer surround effects...

Lord of the Rings(any of them) is awesome on surround.

And you may think i'm crazy, but find Top Gun on Blue Ray.It has some killer surround. It's a 1986 or 1987 movie, but it's still killer.
